The 25th annual Big Sur Marathon slated for April 2010 will boast humorous mile markers along the 26.2 mile course. John Ceney, a local muralist, will be creating the markers that are available for sponsorship through the marathon organizers.

Thomas McGrath cried as he crossed the line at the first Fallen 4 Marathon with a time of 2 hours 50 minutes and 58 seconds. McGrath stated that his achilles tendon nagged him while enduring some of the larger climbs on the course

Cameron Hart, Queensland Events general manager, knows the starting line at Broadwater Parklands will be a tight squeeze for the twenty-one thousand runners. Kenyans are staged to break the course record and members of the Bulletin staff are expected to complete the 26.2 mile distance as well.

Just Gillette repeated at the Kona Marathon champion with a time of 2 hours 42 minutes and 6 seconds despite cramps over the last four miles which slowed his pace from the five minute range to the lower seven minute range.

While Kenyans were busy claiming the top three places in the overall marathon, the top runner in the Kuala Lumpur five-kilometer race took some research to find our the real local winner and many runners found a shortfall of water on the course.

Juluis Karinga ran his first marathon and celebrated by winning the inaugural Kuala Lumpur Marathon with a time of 2 hours 17 minutes and 2 seconds as Kenyans swept the top 3 positions in the race.

   Kuala Lumpur Set For Biggest Marathon Race On Sunday (Bernama.com)
Kuala Lumpur will host the countries largest race event which begins at Dataran Merdeka on Sunday. The twelve-thousand, five hundred participants will chase the largest cash award offered by the marathon. Lawrence Kiptoo Saina is expected to steal top honors in the men's marathon.

The thirty-sixth annual Mayor's Marathon in Anchorage helds it's eighth "green" marathon in an effort to reduce landfill waste generated by the race. The increased use of biodegradable products made for an even "greener" event for the 2009 event.

Erik Johnson recently moved to Seward Alaska for a job with the state parks department. Johnson won the Exit Glacier 10K in May and just missed a top five finish at the Mayor's Marathon in Anchorage last weekend.

Clear and sunny skies greeted fifteen-hundred runners for the Mont Blanc Marathon in the town of Chamonix. First and second place were separated by one second at Christophe Assailly won the hot and hilly marathon with a time of 4 hours 3 minutes and 23 seconds.

Keineestse Moswasi crossed the finish line of the Bosele Marathon in first place with a time of 2 hours 24 minutes and 13 seconds. And while he reputation as an elite runners is growing, he missed the Berlin World Championships qualifying time of 2 hours and 18 minutes.

   Palmerston North runners on winning streak (Manawatu Standard)
Blair van Stipriaan finished third in the marathon held in Wellington. He was unable to overtake five-time winner Grant McLean who won the 26.2 mile race with a time of 2 hours 49 minutes and 28 seconds.

Frank Livaudais has joined the short list of runners completing a marathon in all 50 states. Livaudais ran the Vermont City Marathon in 3 hours and 9 minutes and 51 seconds. He started the quest in 2002 at the Austin Marathon

   Western States 100 has high attrition rate (Tahoe Daily Tribune)
Many of the Western States 100 mile runners are challenged, not only by the distance but also by extreme elevation changes. Intense heat also greeted the four-hundred participants. Hal Koerner won the race for the second consecutive time in nearly 16 hours and 25 minutes.

   Marathon Junkie (Columbus Dispatch)
Chuck Engle, a.k.a marathon junkie, has embraced the name he was given by an Omaha news journalist. Engle won the Charlevoix marathon in Michigan on Saturday making it his thirty-first marathon of the year and just one more win is his growing list of marathon victories.
