Allie Scott struggled the final three miles but managed a sub 3-hour marathon victory at the Deseret New Marathon on Friday. Her time of 2 hours 56 minutes and 41 seconds outdistanced Julie Thomas, 2nd place, who finished with a time of 3 hours 2 minutes and 11 seconds.

Ashis Roy completed his seventh marathon for 2009 by placing second in the 70 plus age division at the Friendly Massey Marathon in Canada. The oldest competitor, Roy, ran the 42 kilometer race in 6 hours and 43 minutes which was 6 minutes slower than his Niagara-on-the-Lake Marathon four weeks ago.

Steve Cowie from Greensboro North Carolina won the forty-second annual Grandfather Mountain marathon with a time of 2 hours 46 minutes and 31 seconds. Cowie, a civil engineer, trained about one-hundred miles a week getting ready for the event.
