		Runners to stampede through Calgary (Calgary Herald) Approximately 6,000 people are expected to participate in the running events surrounding Calgary Marathon weekend. The marathon which started in 1963 stemmed from one of Calgary's great distance runners, Doug Kyle, who represented Canada in the 1956 and 1960 Olympics and also participated in the Pan American Games. Only nineteen men took part in the original race.

		Abdirahman kicks to 10,000m title at US Olympic Trials (IAAF) Abdi Abdirahman who took an early lead at the 2008 Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon won the race and an Olympic berth in a time of 27:41.89. Local hero Galen Rupp and Jorge Torres were second and third respectively. Athens Olympic medalist Meb Keflezighi, short of training after an injury from the U.S. marathon trials, failed to make the Olympic team and came in thirteenth place.

		Kenya Beijing squad announced as trials conclude in Nairobi (IAAF) Athletics Kenya released the final list of thirty-seven athletes who will compete in the Beijing Summer Olympics. The Marathon team will be led by Martin Lel, Robert Cheruiyot and Sammy Wanjiru. World champion Catherine Ndereba, Martha Komu and Selina Kosgei compose the women's team.

		Registration For 2009 Little Rock Marathon Now Open (TodaysTHV.com) Discounted registration prices are now available for the Little Rock Marathon which is expecting a sell-out once again. Gina Marchese Pharis, co-executive director of the event, has announced this years theme "Marathoners Gone Wild". The 2008 event (held earlier this year in March) saw a 35% increase in participation with almost 12,000 participants in the various events.

		Olympic Dream Still Alive For Radcliffe (Bedford Today) Paula Radcliffe still has a chance of making this summer's Beijing Olympics despite nursing a stress fracture to her left thigh, although UK Athletics Performance Director Dave Collins has their doubts. It has been a month since she was diagnosed with the injury, but Radcliffe is striving to make her fourth successive Olympics by training at Font Romeu in the French Pyrenees. Collins will wait until July 20 before making a decision on Radcliffe as that is when he declares the final team to the British Olympic Association.

		Bucyrus Woman Tina Reffey Runs Marathon While Fighting Cancer (Mansfield News Journal) At fifty-two Tina Reffey, a veteran of twelve marathons, used marathons as dedications to others an employer, her father-in-law. In 2008 Reffey ran the Boston Marathon for herself having been diagnosed with cancer and having less than a year to recover following surgeries and other cancer treatments. Reffey, who qualified with a time of 3:55 in Chicago finished Boston in 4:27.

		Ben Tarbutton Wins Marathon On First Try (Gaylord Herald Times) Ben Tarbutton had not told anyone except for his girlfriend that he planned to run the Charlevoix Marathon, his debut in the distance. Tarbutton stunned all since he won the event in just under 2:50 without training for it. The Lake Superior State University track and field team runner majoring in mathematics for secondary education had signed up for the marathon on race day.

		Four-time Marathon Winner Pat Carroll Brings Big Squad (Gold Coast.com.au) Pat Carroll, four-time winner of the Gold Coast Marathon, will be bringing one hundred eighty weekend warriors he has trained including Premier Anna Bligh to participate in the various race events. Carroll who will run the half-marathon himself, won in 1983, '84, '88 and '97 races, the 1995 Beppu Marathon and still holds an Australian all-comers record for a half marathon of 61:11. Premier Bligh is hoping to break two hours in the half marathon.

		Amy Hastings Believes Marathon May Be In Her Future (Kansas City Star) Amy Hastings who finished fourteenth at the 2008 Olympic Trials 10,000 meters in Eugene, Oregon believes her natural strength lies in longer distances. Currently, Hastings prepares for the the next 5,000 meters round at the Trials. Hastings currently trains in Flagstaff's high altitude training camp.

		Kibet Sets Eyes On World Marathon Mark (The Standard) World Marathon mens champion, Luke Kibet,has his eyes on setting a new world record at the 2008 Berlin Marathon in September. Whether he will run at the Beijing Olympics remains undecided as Athletics Kenya has yet to announce the 10,000 meter team and he is on the Olympics mens marathon reserve list alongside Rotterdam Marathon champion, William Kiplagat. In 2007 Ethiopian Haile Gebrselassie ran 2:04.26 to break Kenyan Paul Tergats previous record of 2:04.55 set at the same Berlin course in 2003.

		Running Mum Liza Hunter-Galvan Wins Her Marathon Fight (New Zealand Herald) Liza Hunter-Galvan, the runner determined to make the Olympics for her brain-injured daughter, won her case yesterday and has made the New Zealand Olympic Women's Marathon team for the 2008 Beijing Games. Hunter-Galvan, who ran a qualifying time last year, had been denied the initial Olympic berth due to poor performances at previous championships. Her motivation for the Olympics was to create new memories for 13-year-old Amber, who is still battling head injuries inflicted when a truck smashed into the family's car last year.
		Hunter-Galvan Set Up to Fail Says Gold Medalist John Walker (Stuff.co.nz) After Liza Hunter-Galvans fight with Athletics New Zealand for a right to a spot on the New Zealand Olympic womens marathon team for the 2008 Beijing Games, Former Olympic 1500m gold medallist John Walker believes that Hunter-Galvan has been set up to fail. Hunter-Galvans daughter sustained brain injuries in a car accident the family was involved in last year and coupled with the mental toll battling the athletics federation, Walker hopes she has the strength to pull off a good performance. Hunter-Galvan has officially received notice of her Olympic berth.

		Seafair Marathon Won't Reimburse Runners Who Missed The Bus (The Seattle Times) Organizers of the Seafair Marathon said that they won't reimburse entry fees for runners who didn't make it onto a shuttle bus to the start of the marathon. They said they will donate half of those fees to charity and have promised to cover the entry fees for runners who missed the shuttle and want to race in either next month's Torchlight Run or next year's Seafair Marathon. Nearly four hundred did not make it to the start. Runners paid between $65 and $100 to participate.

	Mont Blanc Marathon

		Marathon du Mont Blanc Running Weekend (Chamonix Chamonet) Over fourteen hundred runners ran the 2008 Mont Blanc Marathon in hot conditions and a course that notably starts in altitude and climbs 1015 meters after the start. Swiss athlete Jean-Yves Rey won the marathon in 3:52. The first woman over the line was French runner Christiane Lacombe in 5:16.

		Shawn Kemp To Take Up Marathon Running (Seattle Times) Ex-Seattle NBA star Shawn Kemp who is 6'10 and once stood at three hundred pounds who battled weight problems at the end of his career has shed fifty pounds and has a new goal to get fit. Kemp plans to run marathons. "My goal is to run the New York City Marathon in about two years."

		Hunter-Galvan will run at Olympic Games (Stuff.co.nz) Marathon runner Liza Hunter-Galvan's fight for a place in the New Zealand Olympic team paid off today when New Zealand Athletics reversed their earlier decision to allow her to compete at the 2008 Beijing Games. The United States-based runner was not included in the initial nominations for the Games due to poor performances at the Athens Olympics and the grounds she would not be capable of a top-16 finish. Hunter=Galvan had run an A qualifying time and finished fifth in 2:30:40 at the 2007 the Amsterdam Marathon.
