Shizo Kanakuri ran the 1912 Summer Olympic Marathon race in Stockholm. He did not finish and, in fact, he disappeared from the course and was listed as a missing person. He finished the race over fifty years later.

Malaysian police discovered the body of a marathon runner a day after he failed to return home after finishing the race. A police canine unit found Gary Leon Robert, 22, in a pedestrian tunnel at a stadium in Selangor state early Monday.
