		Air Force Marathon could hit 9,000 runners (Air Force Times) The Air Force marathon registration is up 34 percent and could go well over 9000 registrants for the September event. Molley Louden, race director, said that keeping the event between 10 and 15 thousand makes it much more enjoyable for all participants.

		Baltimore Marathon registration running ahead of last year's pace (Baltimore Business Journal) The Under Armour Baltimore Marathon is hoping to draw over 17,000 participants to the October 11th twenty-six mile race. Over 14,500 runners participated in the 2007 event and handed out nearly 18 million toward the economic prosperity of the Baltimore area.

		Try this before running a marathon (Chicago Tribune) The Chicago Marathon is toying with the idea of requiring all participants to run a half-marathon prior to running the 26.2 mile distance on October 12th. Event director, Carey Pinkowski, stated that "there is nothing casual about the marathon."

		Idaho's Mesa Falls Marathon gaining in popularity (Standard Journal) This Saturday the Mesa Falls Marathon will will kick off at 6:30 am with the half marathon starting at 8:30 am. Registration stands at 380 participants and should climb to over 500 by race day. Participants range from local Idaho areas to states as far away at Florida and at least two foreign countries.

		Howard Stern's Bride-to-Be training for New York City Marathon (Wall Street Journal) Beth Ostrosky, animal lover, model, bride-to-be adds another role to her busy career - New York City Marathon Competitor. Ostrosky will be running for the charity North Shore Animal League America Spokesperson is Running to Save Lives. Beth has been training arduously for months, preparing for the starter's signal on Marathon Sunday, which comes on the heels of her October nuptials with radio superstar Howard Stern.

		Malinga for marathon without team backing (New Vision Online) Alex Malinga will rely solely on the medical staff of the Beijing Olympics for his support and cheering section. His team medical director is on a flight Saturday night roughly 13 hours before the Uganda will run his Olympic event. Dr.Ntege Ssengendo will join the rest of the national team that has left Beijing prior to the closing ceremonies.

		THE Quad Cities Marathon Announces Award Winning Runner as Its Featured Speaker: Helen Klein (Dispatch) Helen Klein, who stated that she would rather wear out than rust out, will be the featured speaker at the Quad Cities Marathon Pasta Dinner on September 27th. Klein, who began running in her 50's, has run over 100 marathons, 140 ultra-marathons, and completed the Ironman distance as well. Now in her 80's she is still running races.
	Wineglass Marathon

		Changes are subtle for Wineglass Marathon (Ithaca Journal) The October 5th Wineglass Marathon will not have a course change and will continue to run from Bath to Corning along it's traditional course. In order to start the race you will have to set the alarm one hour earlier than last year. The race and relays will start at 8 am versus the traditional 9 am start time.

	Marine Corps Marathon

		Marine Corps Marathon alters route (Washington Business Journal) Rick Nealis, race director for the Marine Corps Marathon has added some great changes to this years course for the nearly 22,000 runners expected to participate. The biggest change is that runners will enter the converging point of the Anacostia and Potomac rivers in Southwest D.C. at Mile 12 and leave the park at Mile 14. This gives the runners a chance to tackle some of the hills earlier in the race while the legs are still somewhat fresh.

		Borneo Marathon holds huge tourism potential for Sabah (Daily Express) The Borneo Marathon represents the only marathon to be held in Borneo during 2008. The race will offer prized money and takes place on October 12th. International travelers will use the race in Sabah as a stepping stone into Asia's other tourist destinations.

		Husband's plea prompted Tosa's marathon withdrawal (Daily Yomiuri) Up until this year, the Japanese women's marathon team had 5 medals and two consecutive gold medals. Reiko Tosa, 32 was hoping to avenge her fifth place finish in Athens where Noguchi won the Gold in the marathon. Tosa, who was in visible pain, was pulled from the marathon at the 25 kilometer mark by her husband. Beijing was supposed to be her mark on history.

		The 13th Annual Steamtown Marathon (WNEP) The Steamtown Marathon attracts runners from around the world to its fast downhill course. The race, which takes place on October 12th at 8am, has raised nearly half a million dollars for St. Joe's. The course drops over 1,000 feet from start to finish.

		Detroit Free-Press Marathon course adds RiverWalk (Detroit Free Press) The Detroit Free Press Marathon will cover two countries during the October 19th twenty-six point two mile race. The course will cross the Ambassador Bridge into Canada and then back to the U.S. The course this year will include the scenic River Walk section and a faster finishing mile.
	Edmonton Festival Marathon

		Inspired runners cross line at Edmonton Marathon (Edmonton Journal) Joylin Nodwell ignored the standard practice of sleep the night before her victory in Edmonton. Instead, she opted to watch the women's Olympic Marathon. Inspiration from the gold medal finish and her father, who passed from cancer in May, spurred her on to win the race in 3 hours and 11 minutes.
	Icebreaker Indoor Marathon

		Icebreaker Marathon will take 94 laps around Pettit Center Track (Milwaukee Journal Sentinnel) The Icebreaker Marathon will take place in January and consist of 94 laps around the indoor track at the Pettit Center. The event is limited to 100 people and registration starts in September.

		The Water Myth (Guardian) The 2007 London Marathon saw 14 runners treated for hyponatraemia - or fluid intoxication, which is more prevalent than dehydration. Studies have shown that elite marathon runners drink very little during their race. Over hydration could be cause for the lack of fluid intake.

		Baldini uncertain to defend Olympic marathon title (Sports Illustrated) Defending Champion gold medalist Stefano Baldini injured his right thigh Friday and is uncertain if he will be able to compete in the marathon at Beijing Olympics. Baldini has taken three days off from training.

		Gebrselassie plans 2012 Games assault (Times of India) Marathon world record holder Haile Gebrselassie plans to race at the London Olympics in 2012 even though he'll be almost forty. Having opted out of the Beijing marathon because of health concerns sparked by the city's notorious smog, Gebrselassie ran the 10,000 meters to a sixth place finish. Geb believes he has ten years left in his running career.

		Gebrselassie regrets opting out of Beijing Olympics marathon (Reuters UK) Marathon world record-holder Haile Gebrselassie who feared that the pollution in Beijing would ruin his health regrets pulling out of the Beijing Olympic Marathon event. Gebrselassie says the weather has been perfect every day he has been in the city. Gebrselassie ran to a sixth place finish in the men's 10,000m on Sunday.

		Paula Radcliffe targets London 2012 marathon (Telegraph UK) World record holder has a long road a head of her if she plans to run the 2012 London Olympic Games in attempts at an Olympic medal that has so far eluded her in Atlanta, Sydney, Athens and Beijing. At the Beijing Games, Radcliffe kept pace with the leaders until 19 miles; but lack of training and in some pain. Radcliffe finished 23rd in 2:32:38.
		Tomescu wins women's marathon at the Beijing Olympics (Sports Network) Romania's Constantina Tomescu has won the women's marathon at the Olympics, finishing in a time of 2:26:44. Kenya's Catherine Ndereba outraced China's Zhou Chunxiu over the final 50 meters to win her second straight silver medal in this event in a 2:27:06. Great Britain's Paula Radcliffe, the world record holder, suffered a calf injury late in the race and was well out of contention, finishing twenty-third. American Deena Kastor pulled out due to a broken right foot about five kilometers into the race. American Magda Lewy also didn't finish thanks to a knee injury.
		Mixed emotions for Paula and Pauline after marathon effort (Telegraph UK) With only two weeks of outdoor training, world record marathon holder Paula Radcliffe would not quit the 2008 Beijing Marathon like she did in Athens. Radcliffe was overwhelmed by her 23rd place finish and the extreme pain she felt at the finish, while Pauline Curley who is the oldest woman in the field and representing Ireland, was elated with her 63rd place finish in 2:47.16.

	Edmonton Festival Marathon
		Post-Race Review/ Results
		David Corbett wins the Edmonton Marathon (Edmonton Journal) David Corbett won the 2008 Edmonton Marathon for the third year in the a row. He finished in a 2:35:27, Tom McGrath trailed Corbett with a time of 2:52:18. Ian Blockland was third in 2:52:23. On the women's side Joylin Nodwell won for the second year in a row with a time of 3:11:02. Carmen Thiessen finished in second place with a 3:27:12 and Jill Stein came in third with a 3:31:12.

		Kenyan marathon star to replace injured Cheruiyot at Olympics (China View) World marathon champion Luke Kibet an alternate on the Kenyan Marathon Team will replace injured Robert Cheruiyot at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Cheruiyot pulled out of the Beijing Olympic Games on Saturday after aggravating a thigh injury he first sustained in Italy. Cheruiyot is deeply saddened by his inability to compete.

		Defending Olympcis Marathon champion Baldini hurts thigh (Guardian UK) Defending Olympic marathon champion StEfano Baldini of Italy must rest for three days after picking up a thigh injury. There has been no discussion of whether this will affect his plans to run the Beijing Olympic Marathon next week. Baldini has had a year of injuries, after finishing twelfth in the London Marathon and soon discovered he had a stress fracture of his left leg which put him out of action for almost a month.
