The ING Miami Marathon has a new race director. David Scott worked with University of Miami athletes for twenty-eight years. The Miami Marathon will kick off it's eighth year of racing on January 31, 2010.

A recent study published in the medical journal Behavioural Neuroscience indicates that long distance runners are no better than most drug addicts. Long distance running can create a euphoria in a runner similar to that of Class A narcotics.

   Hawke's Bay Marathon: Furness Fit to Tackle Challenging Taupo Event (Hawke's Bay Today)
Erin Furness won the women's open Hawke's Bay Marathon with a time of 3 hours 28 minutes and 54 seconds and then announced that it was a training run for the iron distance triathlon in Taupo next March
 
 Mudgee Marathon

   Tragedy Leads to Triumph at Mudgee Marathon (Mudgee Guardian)
John Fuller was set in motion last year to run a race in each state of Australia. The loss of his daughter after just twelve days of life compelled Fuller to want to run. His time of 2 hours 53 minutes and 34 seconds was good enough for a personal best and first place.

   Jenkins Places 63rd in Marathon at IAAF World Championship (UMASS LOWELL)
Former University of Massachusetts at Lowell long distance runner, Nate Jenkins, placed sixty-third at the World Track and Field Marathon Championship race. Jenkins was hampered with a hamstring injury that seemed to slow him to a time of 2 hours 32 minutes and 16 seconds.
 
   Kirui Claims World Championship Marathon Gold (Daily Nation)
Abel Kirui won the overall World Championship Marathon Gold medal by setting a championship record with a time of 2 hours 6 minute and 54 seconds. He stated that he will now focus on chasing the world record for the marathon by attempting to run 2 hours 3 minutes and 30 seconds
 
   Kingston Athlete Finishes 33rd in World Championship Marathon (The Kington Whig Standard)
Dylan Wykes finished in the thirty-third position at the World Track and Field Marathon Championships in Berlin. He crossed the finish line in 2 hours and 18 minutes for his slowest marathon finish in three attempts.

   China's Bai Becomes Youngest Ever Women's World Marathon Champion (China View)
Bai Xue won the women's marathon at the World Championships in Berlin becoming the youngest women to ever win a world championship marathon and the first Chinese woman to win a marathon in the world championships. Bai is twenty years of age.
 
   Duluth Native and Elite Marathoner Kara Goucher Battled the Conditions in Berlin Today (Examiner.com)
Kara Goucher finished a disappointing tenth at the World Track and Field Championships in Berlin while racing the marathon event. She was escorted to a medical tent shortly after finishing.
 
   U.S. Runners Show Physical Toll of World Championship Marathon (Los Angeles Times)
Kara Goucher, disappointed in her tenth place finish at the World Championship Marathon race in Berlin, was led to the medical tent shortly after the race. Tara Moody would finish 28th and wound up in the medical tent as well.

Kurt Bauman, who was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, has run ten marathons out of his goal of running fifty marathons to inspire people to stay healthy. He runs the marathons in just under five hours and will race five marathons per year to complete the goal.

The Park City Marathon will begin at 6:30 am at the Newpark Plaza. The challenging 26.2 mile course will run along trails and paved bike paths. The race is expected to host over twelve-hundred runners.

   Canada's Coolsaet Sets Personal Best in World Championships Marathon (CBCsports.ca)
Reid Coolsaet finished 25th in the World Track and Field Marathon Championships with a new marathon personal best of 2 hours 16 minutes and 53 seconds despite of the midday heat.
 
   Kirui Takes World Marathon Title in Record Time (Race Results Weekly)
Abel Kirui entered the World Championships Marathon with the fastest personal best time and left with the world champion title and a new event record.

The Houston half-marathon sold all of the 11,000 slots within twenty-four hours of opening registration. The marathon event sold out within sixty hours. Event director Steven Karpas had hoped for a three week sellout. But to do so in less than three days shocked everyone at the Houston Marathon

   Over 170 Runners Will Compete in Mudgee Marathon Events on Sunday (Mudgee Guardian)
Record numbers of runners have registered for the Mudgee Marathon and half-marathon. The inaugural winner of the marathon, Nick Kastelein, will not start the race for the first time in the race's history. The course record of 2 hours 44 minutes was set in 2002 by Guy Doulman.

Roanoke will host the inaugural Blue Ridge Marathon on April 24, 2010. The challenging course will start and finish in downtown Roanoke. The marathon is being held in conjunction with the parkway's 75th anniversary.

The Ninth Annual Lake Tahoe Marathon will conclude on September 27 after offering several choices for ultra runners and marathon runners. The world-record for the fastest three day marathon was set by South African Oosthuizen with a time of 8 hours 11 minutes and 8 seconds.
