 Air Force Marathon

   Record field runs in 12th annual USAF Marathon (Greene County Dailies)
Nearly 7,400 runners participated in a record crowd at the 12th annual Air Force Marathon. Nathan Peter from Michigan won the men's race with a time of 2 hours, 30 minutes and 37 seconds. Despite the damaging effects of Hurricane Ike the course was clutter free and full of adequate volunteers.

   Team is expecting to have fine race (Akron Beacon Journal)
The Road Runner Akron Marathon allows for relay teams to compete in the marathon race. For the first time in race history, five pregnant women have teamed up to complete the 26.2 mile race. Kimberly Bucey, Laura Pizmoht, Kerry Pachla, Vicki Barone and Monica Nowac are all expecting and expecting to finish the race in under 4 hours.

   Saitta battles to Boulder Marathon win (Dailyl Camera)
After winning the Boulder Marathon in 2004 and 2005, Jason Saitta returned to win the 2008 edition of the 26.2 mile race in 2 hours, 34 minutes and 38 seconds. The 23 year old had a high fever the night before the race and immediately sat down after the event to receive medical treatment.

   Keene State College Holds Centennial Wellness Fair at DeMar Marathon, Sept. 28 (Keene State College)
The Clarence Demar Marathon will start and end this Sunday at the gateway to Keene State College. The health and fitness expo is part of the days events. The race was named after the 7-time Boston Marathon winner who came to Keene in 1929.

   MTN Kampala Marathon hand over proceeds to Red Cross (Monitor Online)
The Kampala Marathon raises funds for Internationally Displaced People and mothers of refugees. With record numbers, again, expected for this years marathon more money is expected to be given to several charities with the tenth annual version of the race.
 
 Montana Marathon

   Billings hosts Montana Marathon (Montana's News Station)
Greg Simpson crossed the line first in the Montana Marathon just over 24 hours after finishing a marathon in Bismark, North Dakota on Saturday. He did not win as he started the race 2 hours early to make his flight back to New Jersey on time. The winner of the overall marathon was Tim Phillips of Glasgow.

   Wami, Tune entered in NYC Marathon (International Herald Tribune)
Gete Wami,37, who was the world majors marathon champion and runner up to Paula Radcliffe in last years New York City Marathon has committed to running in NYC again this year. Dire Tune, 23, winner of Boston last year and two time winner of Houston and current course record holder in Houston has committed to run NYC in November as well. Both are from Ethiopia
 
 Pittsburgh Marathon

   Major changes in store for revived Pittburgh marathon (Pittsburgh Tribune-Review)
Patrice Matamoros, race director said it will take about $800,000 dollars to put on the Pittsburgh Marathon. While prize money is considerably less than 2004, sponsors and organizers have committed to growing the race over the next 3 years. The course will start and end in a different location as the planned finish line park is under construction and a Pirates game will conflict with the running crowd.

Aside from the nearly 10,000 runners who will participate in the Road Runner Akron Marathon, a satellite race was held just west of Baghdad on September 14 where 220 troops ran with official RR Akron Marathon race numbers and banners.

Abby Berg, 22, an Oconomowoc native and now the community wellness coordinator for Northeast Iowa, the 2007 Fox Cities Marathon was considered her first ultra-marathon. A wrong turn at a corner with her cheering classmates caused her to follow the half-marathon runners and not the marathon route. A lesson for all of us in direction and finishing what you start.

The Swansea Community Neighbourhood Cheering and Entertainment Centre, which will be on the median at Lakeshore Boulevard and Windermere Avenue September 28 is the next to join the cheering squad for the flat,fast and festive marathon.

A record number of runners appeared last year for the 2007 Air Force Marathon. That record number is forecast to rise again this year to over 6,700. Last year winner was Josh Cox who ran an Olympic Trials Qualifying time of 2 hours 20 minutes and 57 seconds.

The Nedbank Cape Town Marathon has more than doubled its current registration numbers over last year. With nearly 2,000 participants registered for the marathon and 10K, the race has added nearly 1,200 to the growing list over 2007.
 
 City of Los Angeles Marathon (L.A. Marathon)

   Dodgers to take over Los Angeles Marathon. (Daily News)
The Los Angeles Marathon has a new owner in the Los Angeles Dodgers. The race was sold to Going the Distance from Devine Racing and recently acquired by the L.A. Dodgers who are moving the race from March to February and moving the traditional Sunday start to Presidents day on Monday. Next year it will fall on February 16, 2009.

   Race director revamps Delaware Marathon course (The News Journal)
On May 17, 2009 Wayne Kursh will introduce runners from every state to a new start, new finish and a new course that he calls "much more challenging". The new course will have runners of the full marathon loop twice rather than the old four loop course and the new start will be held at Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park.

   Wichmann's inspiring journey leads to Fox Cities Marathon (Post Crescent)
Lynne Wichmann, now 52, ran the Fox Cities Marathon in 1991 with a time of 3 hours 45 minutes which was good enough to finish in the top 15 women. She has been running for 25 years and raced in half-marathon and shorter events. When she turned 40, Wichmann's life and running become a little more challenging when she began to stumble and fall while walking. She is battling multiple sclerosis and vows to finish this years Fox Cities marathon again.

The Little Rock Arkansas Marathon has announced it's FREE training program for the March 15, 2009 Marathon and running events. Hobbit and Tom Singleton will head up the training program and race director Geneva Hampton is looking for additional people who would like to start a training program in their area.

   Holyoke marathoner runs in memory of her uncle (The Republican)
Holyoke's Rachael Colacino will run The Breakers Marathon on October 15th as her first marathon. She will run in memory of the man who helped introduce her to the sport of running, her uncle Jerry. He passed away from Alzheimer's Disease after talking Colacino into her first running race some 20 years ago.

   Marathon Runners Have Higher Heart Risks (Red Orbit)
In a recent study researches determined that while running in general is a heart healthy habit, male marathon runners over the age of 50 may be at a higher risk of heart attack. Older men have a higher incident of calcium in their arteries which is linked to heart conditions.
 
 Victoria Marathon

   Royal Victoria Marathon for Charity (C-FAX 1070)
The Royal Victoria Marathon scheduled for October 12th is set to raise money through pledges for Santas Anonymous. The race touts that 100% of all pledges go directly to the charity.

   Bellingham Bay Marathon nears (The Bellingham Herald)
The Bellingham Bay Marathon will take place Sunday September 28 and is partnering with the SSC to take steps in becoming a "green" event. The second annual marathon will include a half-marathon and five kilometer race along with the marathon distance.
 
 Boulder Backroads Marathon

   Sandrock: Time to let your body rest (Your Daily Camera Online)
The Boulder Backroads Marathon will have about 2,000 participants this weekend. Most of the athletes should be resting up this week as the training and mileage of preparing for the race should have been done in the previous few months. Jeff Mason, race director, will continue the tradition of organizing water stops and fuel stations along the scenic route.

   Lake Orion's Clint Verran returns to run Free Press marathon (Detroit Free Press)
Clint Verran, the fifth place finisher at the 2008 Men's Olympic Trials, will return to race in the Detroit Free Press Marathon where his first of 24 marathons began back in 1998. A physical therapist in Lake Orion, Verran was part of the Hanson's distance project and competed at Eastern Michigan University.
 
 Equinox Marathon

   Equinox Marathon Participation Nears 1,000. (Daily News Miner)
Race Director John Estle says times are changing for the Fairbanks Alaska Equinox Marathon. The marathon race which touted well over 1,000 participants back in the 1960's, now in its 46th year, is climbing back toward the 1,000 registration mark. The race has not seen numbers in the 800's since the late 70's and current registration is already well ahead of last year with just over 800 registered runners for the Sunday race.

   Salwan Marathon on November 16 (Hindustania Times)
The Salwan Marathon began with 300 students and a budget of less than 500 dollars. The 2007 event grew to nearly 27,000 participants and this years race will have over 700 schools registered and will be capped at 28,000. Events for the day will also include a race for the visually impaired.
 
   Marathon Number 456 is completed - only one week after Number 455. (Cotswold Chatterblog)
Steve Edwards finished the Great Langdale Marathon in Cumbria as marathon number 456 on Sunday 14th September 2008. This occured only one week after he ran Marathon Number 455 at Wolverhampton. Edwards quest for the world record continues.
