 Akron Marathon

   Akron marathon kicks off in Iraq (Akron Beacon Journal)
The Akron Marathon will be held this weekend with nearly 10,000 particpants expected. For Sergeant Carl Berg, a graduate of the local Stow-Munroe Falls high school, the race is over. He is stationed in Iraq and completed the marathon as a Shadow Akron Marathon on September 14th complete with banners, t-shirts, and finishers medals.

Avenue Hotel is offering Chicago Marathon runners and spectators a special weekend package that starts at 279 dollars per night. The package includes an energy basket, very spacious rooms and a 1 pm checkout to allow time for post race recovery.
 
 Frankfurt Marathon

   Kiplagat and Maiyo spearhead Kenyans in Frankfurt (Kenya Broadcasting Corporation)
A group of fast Kenyans have entered the 27th edition of the Frankfurt Marathon to be held on the 26th of October. The event has earned the IAAF's Silver Label for a road race. William Kiplagat and Benjamin Maiyo, with personal bests of 2:06:50 and 2:07:09 respectively, are the fastest registered for the marathon. Kiplagat, 36, will be the fastest runner ever to start in the Frankfurt Marathon.

The Lake Tahoe series of races will host marathon races on three consecutive days as well as biking events, boating events and swimming events. Today marks the kickoff of the weekend with an expo and large dinner planned for tonight.

The health and fitness expo for the Quad Cities marathon will kick off the weekend events on Saturday, 27 in Moline. Helen Klein will be the guest speaker at the pasta dinner. Klein has several world records and began her running career at the age of 55.

   Over 260,000 apply to run in 2009 Tokyo Marathon (The Mainichi Daily News)
Well over 261,000 people have applied to run the third annual Tokyo Marathon to be held in March 2009. The 26.2 mile race is limited to only 30,000 runners and the 5K that is held alongside the marathon can allow only 5,000 participants. This is a a 68 percent increase in applicants from last year.

   Soldiers taking steps to do Dallas' White Rock Marathon - from Iraq (Dallas Morning News)
Jeremy Jackson is usually up by 4 am with his running shoes on. Though it is dark out, if he waits another two hours the temperature could hit 105 degrees or higher. Capt. Jackson is running the Dallas White Rock Marathon some 7,000 miles away from Dallas as a satellite marathon. The conditions for training are brutal. But Jackson said he'll be ready come December.

   Clint Verran has Free Press Marathon win, record in his sights (Detroit Free Press)
Clint Verran hopes to run well on October 19 at the Detroit Free Press International Marathon. So well that he could eclipse the 1980 course record of 2 hours and 13 minutes held by Grand Rapids native Greg Meyer. Verran's first Detroit Free Press Marathon was back in 1998 where he finished sixth. He has run 18 marathons in all and 3 U.S. Olympic Trials.

 Air Force Marathon

   Disabilities don't stop marathoners at Air Force Marathon (Media-Newswire)
Andy Houghton finished his first marathon on the grounds of Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton Ohio. Considering that Houghton lost both legs in a motorcycle accident at the age of 20, just finishing a mile is impressive. Houghton was among several disabled runners to finish the marathon. Captain Castro, who lost his sight in an explosion, finished the marathon in 4 hours and 16 minutes.
 
 Fox Cities Marathon

   Doctor Calls for Changes to Marathon for Emergencies (WBAY-TV)
Theda Clark medical doctor Scott Behrens is calling for some big changes to the Fox Cities Marathon. The doctor said he tried to get to the hospital for an emergency and was told to park his truck and walk by the police monitoring the course. Behrens wants the course moved away from the medical center to prevent issues of this nature from occurring in the future.
 
 Marine Corps Marathon

   Comcast to cover Marine Corps Marathon (Washington Business Journal)
Comcast has been named the official TV sponsor for the 33rd Annual Marine Corp Marathon. They will provide live coverage from the starting line. Comcast will even produce a 30 minute special to air the night of the Marine Corps Marathon with interviews and highlights from the days event.

Those attending the Portland Marathon will have to pay close attention how to get to the start. You can enter the starting corral from the east as most roads will be closed off to traffic due to the pattern of the course. The host hotel is less than one quarter of a mile from the start and provides an easy access.
 
 Toronto Waterfront Marathon

The Toronto Waterfront Marathon has earned a race designation that will allow runners to qualify for the world championships in Berlin. Canada has earned the rights to five men and five women to compete at the world championships and those spots will be given out when comparing the results of the Toronto and Ottawa Marathons.

   Record field runs in 12th annual USAF Marathon (Greene County Dailies)
Nearly 7,400 runners participated in a record crowd at the 12th annual Air Force Marathon. Nathan Peter from Michigan won the men's race with a time of 2 hours, 30 minutes and 37 seconds. Despite the damaging effects of Hurricane Ike the course was clutter free and full of adequate volunteers.

The Road Runner Akron Marathon allows for relay teams to compete in the marathon race. For the first time in race history, five pregnant women have teamed up to complete the 26.2 mile race. Kimberly Bucey, Laura Pizmoht, Kerry Pachla, Vicki Barone and Monica Nowac are all expecting and expecting to finish the race in under 4 hours.

   Saitta battles to Boulder Marathon win (Dailyl Camera)
After winning the Boulder Marathon in 2004 and 2005, Jason Saitta returned to win the 2008 edition of the 26.2 mile race in 2 hours, 34 minutes and 38 seconds. The 23 year old had a high fever the night before the race and immediately sat down after the event to receive medical treatment.
 
 Clarence Demar Marathon

   Keene State College Holds Centennial Wellness Fair at DeMar Marathon, Sept. 28 (Keene State College)
The Clarence Demar Marathon will start and end this Sunday at the gateway to Keene State College. The health and fitness expo is part of the days events. The race was named after the 7-time Boston Marathon winner who came to Keene in 1929.
 
 Kampala Marathon

The Kampala Marathon raises funds for Internationally Displaced People and mothers of refugees. With record numbers, again, expected for this years marathon more money is expected to be given to several charities with the tenth annual version of the race.

Greg Simpson crossed the line first in the Montana Marathon just over 24 hours after finishing a marathon in Bismark, North Dakota on Saturday. He did not win as he started the race 2 hours early to make his flight back to New Jersey on time. The winner of the overall marathon was Tim Phillips of Glasgow.

Gete Wami,37, who was the world majors marathon champion and runner up to Paula Radcliffe in last years New York City Marathon has committed to running in NYC again this year. Dire Tune, 23, winner of Boston last year and two time winner of Houston and current course record holder in Houston has committed to run NYC in November as well. Both are from Ethiopia
 
 Pittsburgh Marathon

   Major changes in store for revived Pittburgh marathon (Pittsburgh Tribune-Review)
Patrice Matamoros, race director said it will take about $800,000 dollars to put on the Pittsburgh Marathon. While prize money is considerably less than 2004, sponsors and organizers have committed to growing the race over the next 3 years. The course will start and end in a different location as the planned finish line park is under construction and a Pirates game will conflict with the running crowd.
