	Detroit International Marathon
		Human Interest Story
		Training for Freep marathon with Clint Verran (Detroit Free Press) Lake Orion native Clint Verran of the Hansons-Brooks Distance Project has run 18 marathons since his Detroit debut in 1998. Verran has been training to try to win this year's Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Marathon and break the men's course record of 2 hours 13 minutes and 7 seconds set in 1980 by Greg Meyer. Verran will share his running tips and updating readers on his training until the October 19 race.
	Hamptons Marathon
		Post-Race Review/ Results
		Second annual Hamptons Marathon a success despite soggy conditions (27 EAST) Oz Pearlman, 26, of New York City bested last years marathon record of 2 hours, 44 minutes and 51 seconds by finishing first in 2 hours 37 minutes and 50 seconds at just over 6 minutes a mile. Jessica Allen, 31, of Hampton Bays was the top female finisher and was fifth overall with a time of 3 hours 7 minutes and 10 seconds to give her a course record for the top female finisher. The previous time of 3 hourse 14 minutes and 3 seconds was set in the inaugural year by Lisa Cecchi.

		Perfect Day for a Race: Fall Colors, Mountains Provide Backdrop for Kenai River Marathon (Peninsula Clarion) David Johnston, 38, Wasilla won his first marathon in 32 attempts which included running 10 during the summer months. He ran a personal-best 2 hours, 53 minutes and 53 seconds while runner-up Andrew Haas crossed at 3 hours 27 minutes and 20 seconds
	Nairobi Marathon

		Bayo, Flora prepare for Nairobi Marathon (This Day) Malkiad Bayo and Flora Charles are currently training in in Arusha in preparation for the October 26 Nairobi Marathon. The athletes are being funded by Standard Chartered Bank. The Nairobi Marathon is the first race of the 2008/09 Greatest Race on Earth Challenge. Three other races complete the challenge and include the Singapore Marathon set for December 7, Mumbai Marathon on January 18, 2009 and Hong Kong Marathon slated for February 8, 2009.
	New Jersey Marathon

		Record number of runner in New Jersey Marathon (Jersey Evening Post) 161 runners from Jersey, 33 from Guernsey and 126 from elsewhere are entered into the New Jersey Marathon for the 2008 edition. Race Director Helen Baker stated that the Island Marathon sponsored by Standard Chartered has attracted runners from as far away as Egypt and Australia.

		Health expo kicks off Marathon of Palm Beach (Palm Beach Daily News) Marathon of Palm Beach has opened registration for its 5K, half marathon, marathon and marathon relay team. Celebrating its five-year anniversary, this year's marathon will be a weekend-long event taking place December 6-7 with the Public Health and Fitness Expo kicking off the event on December 5. The 5K race will take place December 6 with the team relay, half-marathon and marathon slated for December 7. Any runner having participated in each of the last 5 years marathon will receive a commemorative plaque.
	Toronto Waterfront Marathon

		Seboka smashes record in win (globe and mail) The 22-year-old Ethiopian, Mulu Seboka, set a course record of 2 hours 29 minutes 5 seconds. She smased the previous best for the Scotiabank Waterfront Marathon across the shores of Lake Ontario. She was more than four minutes better than the record set last year by Ethiopian Asha Gigi, who finished third this year. Olena Shurkhno of Ukraine finished second in the women's race.

		Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon is this weekend (KARE 11) The 27th Annual Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon takes place this Sunday, October 5. The activities start on Friday and run throughout the weekend. The Health and Fitness Expo begin Friday, Octoiber 3 from 12:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m and Saturday, October 4 from 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. St. Paul RiverCentre The racing starts with the 23rd Annual Medtronic TC 5K Saturday, October 4 from 7 a.m. - 12 noon State Capitol Grounds in St. Paul followed by the marathon on Sunday. 10th Annual Medtronic TC 10 Mile Sunday, Oct. 5 starting at 7:13 a.m. Starts near the Metrodome and finishes at State Capitol

	Akron Marathon
		Post-Race Review/ Results
		Michigan woman beats age in Akron Marathon win (Boston Herald) Sarah Plaxton, 40 of Highland, Michigan, took the womens lead early and held it for the entire length of the 26.2 mile race, winning in 2 hours 57 minutes and 56 seconds.Oxana Khokhlova of Cincinnati was second in 2 hours 59 minutes and 17 seconds. The men's winner was Birhanu Wukaw Zeleke, a native of Ethiopia who lives in Washington, D.C. Wukaw pulled ahead of last years winner, Joshua Koros of Byron Center, Michigan, 14 miles into the race to win in 2 hours 23 minutes an 13 seconds. Koros was second in 2 hours 26 minutes and 29 seconds.

		Haile Gebrselassie sets marathon world record (Seattle Times) With the help of several paces, Haile Gebrselassie smashed his own world record in the marathon by running 2 hours 3 minute and 59 seconds. He is the first man to ever run under 2 hours and 4 minutes for the marathon.

		Nsubuga to set pace in MTN Kampala Marathon (Daily Monitor) Joseph Nsubuga will only take part in the MTN Kampala International Marathon as a pacesetter. A silver medalist in last years marathon event, Nsubuga is currently in residency training in Kabale District preparing for the World Military Marathon due next month in Italy.
	Lake Tahoe Marathon

		Torres, Arthur win Lake TahoeMarathon again (Nevada Appeal) Tony Torres became the first person in Lake Tahoe Marathon history to win the event in three consecutive years. For the first half of the race, Torres was led by 2007 runner-up and Triple winner Lynryd Skynrod who succumbed on the uphill stretches to allow Torres to take the victory in 2:40:41. Skynrod finished in second place. Kristi Arthur, the 2005 champion, won the women's race for the second time in 3:05:30.

		Marshall University Marathon signups busy (Herald Dispatch) Race registrants are nearly 400 for the November 2 Marshall Marathon. That is 80 more people than this same time last year. Tom Dannalls hopes to hit the 1,000 registration mark by race day.
	Omaha Marathon

		2500 Participate in the Omaha Marathon (WOWT - Omaha) Todd Prauner began training one year from the start of the Omaha Marathon by running one mile. He was the male winner in a time of 2 hour, 46 minutes and 3 seconds. Julie Koethe was the first female to finish the marathon in a time of 3 hours 6 minutes and 11 seconds.
	Toronto Waterfront Marathon

		Records smashed at ninth annual Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon (CNW Group) Ethiopian Mulu Seboka smashed the women's course record by nearly four minutes by running a Toronto Waterfront marathon time of 2 hours 29 minutes and 5 seconds. Kenneth Mungara fought a close battle, finishing just two seconds ahead of fellow Kenyan Peter Kiprotich, to win the men's race in 2:11:00.
	Warsaw Marathon

		Ethiopian wins Warsaw marathon (The NEWS post pl) Twenty year old Alemayehu Shumye of Ethiopia won the Warsaw Marathon now in its 30th year. Nearly 3 thousand participants showed up to run the marathon. Seventeen runners have completed all thirty marathons with the oldest being Alvin Czech at the age of 72.

	Mercedes Marathon

		Mercedes Marathon will double-loop, stay in city limits (Everything Alabama) The Mercedes Marathon course will no long run through Mountain Brook or Redwood. This also means that the marathon course will not cross Red Mountain, a very challenging part of the 26.2 mile course the race director Valerie McClean thinks might have prevented the race from growing.

		Des Moines Marathon on Track to Set Record (KCCI 8) The Oct 19 Des Moines Iowa Marathon is on record pace to beat it's registration numbers from a record setting 2007 race. Just over 4,000 participants have registered compared with 2,900 at this time last year. Registration will be available in person on October 17-18 at the Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield Sports & Fitness Expo held at the Polk County Convention Complex.

		Akron marathon kicks off in Iraq (Akron Beacon Journal) The Akron Marathon will be held this weekend with nearly 10,000 particpants expected. For Sergeant Carl Berg, a graduate of the local Stow-Munroe Falls high school, the race is over. He is stationed in Iraq and completed the marathon as a Shadow Akron Marathon on September 14th complete with banners, t-shirts, and finishers medals.

		Avenue hotel Chicago Announces "Chicago Marathon Package" (Market Watch) Avenue Hotel is offering Chicago Marathon runners and spectators a special weekend package that starts at 279 dollars per night. The package includes an energy basket, very spacious rooms and a 1 pm checkout to allow time for post race recovery.
	Frankfurt Marathon

		Kiplagat and Maiyo spearhead Kenyans in Frankfurt (Kenya Broadcasting Corporation) A group of fast Kenyans have entered the 27th edition of the Frankfurt Marathon to be held on the 26th of October. The event has earned the IAAF's Silver Label for a road race. William Kiplagat and Benjamin Maiyo, with personal bests of 2:06:50 and 2:07:09 respectively, are the fastest registered for the marathon. Kiplagat, 36, will be the fastest runner ever to start in the Frankfurt Marathon.

		Lake Tahoe Marathon Race Week starts today (North Lake Tahoe Bonanza) The Lake Tahoe series of races will host marathon races on three consecutive days as well as biking events, boating events and swimming events. (Quad Cities Dispatch Argus Leader) The health and fitness expo for the Quad Cities marathon will kick off the weekend events on Saturday, 27 in Moline. Helen Klein will be the guest speaker at the pasta dinner. Klein has several world records and began her running career at the age of 55.
	Tokyo Int'l Marathon

		Over 260,000 apply to run in 2009 Tokyo Marathon (The Mainichi Daily News) Well over 261,000 people have applied to run the third annual Tokyo Marathon to be held in March 2009. The 26.2 mile race is limited to only 30,000 runners and the 5K that is held alongside the marathon can allow only 5,000 participants. This is a a 68 percent increase in applicants from last year.

		Soldiers taking steps to do Dallas' White Rock Marathon - from Iraq (Dallas Morning News) Jeremy Jackson is usually up by 4 am with his running shoes on. Though it is dark out, if he waits another two hours the temperature could hit 105 degrees or higher. Capt. Jackson is running the Dallas White Rock Marathon some 7,000 miles away from Dallas as a satellite marathon. The conditions for training are brutal. But Jackson said he'll be ready come December.

		Clint Verran has Free Press Marathon win, record in his sights (Detroit Free Press) Clint Verran hopes to run well on October 19 at the Detroit Free Press International Marathon. So well that he could eclipse the 1980 course record of 2 hours and 13 minutes held by Grand Rapids native Greg Meyer. Verran's first Detroit Free Press Marathon was back in 1998 where he finished sixth. He has run 18 marathons in all and 3 U.S. Olympic Trials.
