Honolulu Marathon Opens On-Line Registration

The Honolulu Marathon Association announced today that on-line registration for the 2006 Honolulu Marathon begins today at http://www.honolulumarathon.org. The race is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 10.

"There were already 4,394 paper entries as of last weekend," reported media director, Pat Bigold. "That's nearly 900 more than there were at the same time last year."

The entry fee for local residents is USD 60 through Oct. 27 (USD 95 for out-of-state). Fees increase significantly after that.

The Honolulu Marathon drew 28,048 entries last year, with more than half of them coming from Japan. Of that number, 24,643 made it to the starting line and 24,261 finished. In 2005, it was the third-largest marathon in the United States based on finishers after New York and Chicago, and the 6th-largest in the world.

Hawaii is drying out after weeks of abnormally heavy rains.
