Olympic Medalists Keflezighi & Ndereba Headline Falmouth Road Race

The silver medalists in the marathon at the 2004 Athens Olympics, Meb Keflezighi of San Diego, Calif., and Catherine Ndereba of Kenya, will headline the 35th edition of the Falmouth Road Race on Sunday, Aug. 12, organizers announced on Monday.

For Keflezighi it will be his first attempt at Falmouth's twisting 7 mile course along the beautifully rugged coast of Cape Cod. He will try to become the first American to win the race since Mark Curp in 1988. The event will be Keflezighi's second New England road race in a span of two consecutive weekends; he's also running the TD Banknorth Beach to Beacon 10-K in Cape Elizabeth, Me., the Saturday before.

Ndereba is a three-time Falmouth winner (1996, '98 and '99) and she'll be using this race as part of her preparations for the IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Osaka where on Sunday, Sept. 2, she will attempt to win her second gold medal in the marathon. The week before Falmouth she will run the NYC Half-Marathon presented by NIKE where she is the defending champion.

Falmouth offers one of the richest prize money purses in U.S. road running:
$90,300. Last year's edition recorded 8256 finishers, a race record.
