Event organizers in both Boston and Dublin have news today:
In Boston, the Boston Athletic Association, organizers of the Boston Marathon, announced the creation of a new 5 km race to be held the day before their marathon. On Sunday, April 19, the first BAA 5-K will be held in Boston's Back Bay neighborhood, finishing at the marathon's famous finish line on Boylston Street. Entries are limited to 4000, and the cost is $40.
Registration will be available online, only, at www.baa.org beginning on Thursday, March 5, at 10:00 a.m. EST.
In Dublin, Nova International reported that Irish Olympian, Martin Fagan, will face newly-crowned Lake Biwa Marathon champion, Paul Tergat, at the Great Ireland Run on Sunday, April 5. Fagan, who is 14 years Tergat's junior, has been in good form this winter, setting a half-marathon personal best of 61:05 and clocking 7:57.85 for 3000m indoors. "Martin I know will give it his best shot," said elite athletes manager Andy Caine, who called the match-up between the Kenyan and the Irishman "a very competitive duel."
