NYRR, Flotrack To Stream Mini 10-K

NEW YORK (10-Jun) -- For the first time in its 39-year history, the NYRR New York Mini 10-K will be streamed live over the internet. The world's original women-only road race with a one-loop course of Central Park will be shown on both the New York Road Runner's website, NYRR.org, as well as Flotrack.org.

Flotrack's coverage will begin at 8:30 a.m. (EDT), as Katherine Switzer, a pioneer of women's distance running, will host a pre-race show before the female-only race. The race begins at 9:00 a.m. (EDT), and will be followed by post-race interviews with many of the athletes.

With six world champions competing, the field is loaded with talent. Included in the field is current 10,000m world champion Linet Masai, as well as 2010 IAAF World Cross Country Champion Emily Chebet, both of Kenya. 2010 Boston Marathon champion Teyba Erkesso of Ethiopia will also take to the streets here.

Notable Americans competing will be Magdalena Lewy Boulet and Delilah DiCrescenzo. Also running, but not racing competitively, will be Kara Goucher and Paula Radcliffe; both are five months pregnant, due on September 29.

Originally called the Mini Marathon, the race was named in part for the miniskirt, which was fashionable in 1972 when Fred Lebow and the New York Road Runners hosted the inaugural event won by American Jacqueline Dixon. The first edition only had 78 runners; organizers expect as many as 8,000 on Saturday.
