COLUMBUS, Ohio - (October 17, 2010) - Nearly perfect racing conditions paved the way for three event records at the 31st Nationwide Better Health Columbus Marathon and 1/2 Marathon on Sunday.
For the fourth year in a row, an Ohioan bested a field of 5,000 marathoners. In his 26.2 mile debut, Jason Ordway of Bellbrook, Ohio won in 2 hours, 18 minutes, 8 seconds to meet his goal of qualifying for the Olympic Trials. The 2012 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials qualifying standard is 2:19:00.
In the women's marathon, Elena Kaledina of Russia ran a dominating race to win in 2:44:20 - more than five minutes ahead of the runner-up Elizabeth Hansen of Euclid, Ohio.
Event records were set in the half-marathon as Kenyan Kiprotich Kitui of Santa Fe, N.M. broke the event record with his 1:03:30, while defending champion and former record holder Daniel Kipkoech of Kenya placed second in 1:04:18.
In the women's half, Allison Grace of Columbus also set an event record of 1:14:20 in her 13.1 mile debut. Mariska Kramer of the Netherlands was second (1:14:42).
