REGISTRATION LAUNCHED FOR CITY OF OAKS MARATHON AND HALF MARATHON
RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA (February 22, 2007) - Registration is now open for
the inaugural City of Oaks Marathon and Half Marathon, a race benefiting
the American Cancer Society and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society scheduled
for the morning of Sunday, November 4, 2007. With the launch of the
official race website,www.cityofoaksmarathon.com, participants can
now sign up for the 26.2-mile marathon or the 13.1-mile half marathon. All
registration is being handled on line.
According to City of Oaks Race Director Jim Micheels, online registration
speeds the registration process for participants and eliminates data entry
errors and confusion during race packet pickup. "Early registrants can
enter the race at a reduced price, based on how early they register", he
said. "And because the race will be limited to a total of 5,000
participants, for both races, it is important to sign up early."
The entry cost is $50 for the marathon and $30 for the half marathon
through May 2, 2007. After May 2, registration fees increase leading up to
race day. After October 3, registration will be $80 for the marathon and
$60 for the half marathon.
In addition to making registration available, the race website provides a
detailed course map, information on all events surrounding the race, the
best spectator viewing locations, training group links and much more.
Both the marathon and half marathon will take place in downtown Raleigh,
with the start and finish near the State Fairgrounds. Presenting sponsor
Raleigh Running Outfitters established the City of Oaks Race with the
intention of bringing a prestigious running event to the city of Raleigh,
one that would have the potential to draw thousands of runners. The race
will boost tourism in the downtown area and other areas of the city and
contribute in a meaningful way to two cancer-related charities that are
close to the heart of many of the Triangle's runners.
The marathon and half marathon will award a combined cash purse of $13,400
plus commemorative awards and other giveaways. The event will also feature
a pre-race expo presented by running apparel company BaySix USA; a pasta
dinner hosted by Zely & Ritz, a tapas restaurant on Glenwood South; as well
as post-race festivities at the State Fairgrounds.
