Dick Beardsley Marathon Running Camps Back for More in 2005
June 5-10 and September 6-11
You don't need to pack your bags yet, but you should probably call your
running buddies and make your plans and reservations. The ever-popular Dick
Beardsley-marathon champion, TV and radio personality, expert fishing
guide, and motivational speaker-will once again host two sessions of the
Dick Beardsley Marathon Running Camp. Session I is June 5-10, and Session
II is September 6-11.
Beardsley's camp offers a unique focus: marathoning. Daily seminars and
runs focus on the specifics that runners of all ages and abilities need to
become better marathoners. Runs include hill training, heart rate monitor
training, tempo running, long-distance running, and speed work. Camp fees
cover 12 of 14 meals, beverages, coaching, video analysis, seminars, a
1-year subscription to Marathon & Beyond magazine, camp goodies, and much
more. Each camper is also paired with one of the coaches for additional
one-on-one help during and after camp.
Beardsley will be teaching, training, and running alongside his camp
participants, and his 2005 coaching staff has grown to include Gayle Barron
and Roy Herron, in addition to returning coaches, Joe Henderson, Rich
Benyo, Rhonda Provost, Bill Wenmark, Mike Dunlap, and camp director Jan
Seeley, all of whom will be on site both weeks for runs, seminars, meals,
and endless one-on-one time with camp participants.
Notes 2004 camper, Michael Lebowitz, "Camp for me was like money from home:
unexpected, much appreciated, surprisingly necessary, and filled with the
promise of better days to come." Adds Al Neil, "I found spiritual
inspiration and a wonderful freedom in a positive relaxed environment. (I
blame Dick Beardsley and the coaching staff-perhaps I can even have
definitive proof after Boston)."
Once again, Beardsley's camp will be held on the peaceful and scenic
grounds of Rainbow Resort (www.rainbowresort.com) near Waubun, MN, 4.5
hours northwest of the Twin Cities. Staff and runners share modern 3- and
4-bedroom family style vacation lake homes with all the comforts of home.
Situated on Little Bemidji and Big Elbow lakes, and along the Ottertail
River, the resort has more than 500 acres, miles and miles of private
trails, and a mile of shoreline. In addition to all the great running, camp
participants can enjoy many other activities, including fishing with Dick,
swimming, mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking, disc golf, pontoon rides,
trail rides, volleyball, and more. Side trips to cool places nearby are
also on the schedule.
Beardsley says, "You do not have to be a world-class runner to enjoy the
great physical and mental benefits that running marathons can bring you!
Running has been a huge part of my life for the past 32 years, and I want
to share my experiences and the experiences of our incredible coaches with
all of you! We will be running on the peaceful trails and back roads on
Northern Minnesota, where the beautiful call of the loons will lull you to
sleep at night and greet you to a new day the next morning."
Limited to ONLY 30 registrants per session, Beardsley's camp is open to
marathoners aged 18 and older (teen campers are also welcome with a parent
or guardian also registered at camp).
