RUDYK WINS UNITED TECHNOLOGIES GREATER HARTFORD MARATHON
HARTFORD, Conn., Oct. 14, 2006 - Mykolai Rudyk of Ukraine won the 13th
annual United Technologies Greater Hartford Marathon today with a time of
2:18:39. The wining time was off the course record of 2:16:34 set last
year by Moses Kemboi.
"I'm very happy that I finished the marathon and won," said Rudyk, who was
running his first marathon in two years after suffering a hamstring injury.
"I worked hard to make it to this marathon."
Jonathan Ndambuki of Kenya finished second with a time of 2:18:41.
Zintu Meaza of Ethiopia placed third with a time of 2:18:56. Meaza won the
2004 United Technologies Greater Hartford Marathon in a time of 2:18:50.
Anastasiya Padalinskaya of Belarus won the women's race with a time of
2:38:46. The time was off the course record of 2:33:29 set in 2003 by
Ramilia Burangulova. Padalinskaya was followed by Alena Vinitskaya, also
of Belarus, in a time of 2:39:20. Alevtina Naoumova of Russia placed third
with a time of 2:43:31.
Michael Green of Atlanta, Georgia, won the half marathon with a time of
1:05:25. Green's time was off the course record of 1:03:36 set in 1999 by
Benedict Ako. Deresse Deniboba of Ethiopia came in second at 1:05:47, and
Joshua Kemie of Torrington, Connecticut, placed third at 1:07:22.
Heather Webster of Honeoye Falls, New York, won the women's half marathon
with a time of 1:19:52. The women's course record of 1:15:11 was set in
2002 by Jackline Torori. Athena Countouriotis of Hartford, Connecticut,
placed second at a time of 1:27:30, and Maureen Burns of Hampden,
Massachusetts, placed third at 1:28:27.
Sean Connolly of Ireland won the 5K race with a time of 15:04. The course
record of 15:03 was set in 2001 and 2003 by Eric Nedeau. Mark Miller of
Keene, New Hampshire, placed second with a time of 15:06, and Adam Ambrus
of Shamong, New Jersey, came in third with a time of 15:09.
Tatyana Pozdnyakova of Ukraine won the women's 5K with a time of 18:07.
The course record of 16:47 was set in 2003 by Amy Nedeau. Brandee Boice of
Holyoke, Massachusetts, came in second at 18:31, and Kristen Kemp of
Cranston, Rhode Island, placed third with a time of 20:44.
