Press Release - London Marathon - 1/17/25

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Legendary Eliud Kipchoge to race 2025 TCS London Marathon

Eliud Kipchoge, the greatest marathon runner in history, is returning to
the TCS London Marathon in 2025.

The legendary Kenyan, the only human to have run inside two hours for a
marathon, will return to the streets of London for the first time since
2020 for the historic 45th edition of the TCS London Marathon on Sunday 27
April 2025.

Kipchoge, known fondly across the world as the GOAT (the Greatest Of All
Time), has an unparalleled record in marathon running. In addition to his
sub two-hour marathon, set at the INEOS 1:59 Challenge in 2019, he has two
Olympic marathon victories to his name (2016 and 2020) and 11 wins at
Abbott World Marathon Majors events - the highest tier of marathons in the
world.

Among these wins are his four victories in the London Marathon which is the
most ever in the elite men's category. His wins in London came during an
unbeaten stretch in the capital ranging from 2015 to 2019 (he didn't
compete in the 2017 edition). His last appearance came in the elite-only
London Marathon during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 where an ear infection
impacted him and he finished in eighth position.

That 2020 London Marathon was the only blot on an incredible eight-year
spell, featuring 16 marathons, during which Kipchoge reigned supreme over
the world of marathon running. It included five wins - and two world
records - at the BMW Berlin Marathon, victories at the Bank of America
Chicago Marathon and Tokyo Marathon, plus his two Olympic titles and
successful INEOS 1:59 Challenge.

Kipchoge said: "I am excited to share that my next race will be the TCS
London Marathon. It is a race that holds a very special place in my heart,
filled with so many beautiful memories, and I am eager to create even more.
Let us celebrate the joy of running and the collective spirit of thousands
of runners coming together at the Start Line. It's a privilege to share
this journey with everyone else who will be taking part as we push
ourselves to deliver our best performances. After a good period of rest, I
have returned to training with renewed energy and focus. I feel re-fuelled
to give my very best in London."
