Pacific Shoreline Set to Roll Again with Free Wheelchair Mission
Huntington Beach, CA October 5, 2006 - For the second year in a row, the
Pacific Shoreline Marathon is teaming up with the Free Wheelchair Mission
for a fundraising event that will change the lives of thousands of people.
In the Second Annual "Run for Mobility", hundreds of runners will use the
Pacific Shoreline Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5K as a way to raise funds
that will send specially engineered wheelchairs around the world.
Each wheelchair is made of mountain bike tires and durable outdoor
furniture, designed to withstand the outdoors and often rough terrain in
underdeveloped countries. One wheelchair costs just $44.40 delivered. In
last year's Run for Mobility, runners raised $160,000 for the cause. This
year's target is $500,000.
"There are few opportunities to make such a significant impact on so many
lives," said Pacific Shoreline Marathon General Manager, Amy Tomchak.
"Running for those who can't is a great way to make the race more
meaningful for everyone involved."
New to the event this year is a 1K Wheelchair Roll. Not a race, "the Roll"
is an event for everyday wheelchair users and their families and friends to
show their support and raise awareness for the cause. "We are proud to be
introducing this year's wheelchair roll," stated Don Schoendorfer,
President and founder of Free Wheelchair Mission. "We want everyone to be
able to participate in this wonderful event, no matter if they walk or
roll."
Registration and event information for the February 4th, 2007 Pacific
Shoreline Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K is available at www.psmarathon.com.
