SHARKEY LEADS RETURNING RUNNERS IN EAU PALM BEACH MARATHON AND RUN FEST
SET FOR DECEMBER 6 WITH MARATHON, HALF MARATHON AND 5K EVENTS

WEST PALM BEACH (Dec. 3, 2015) - Bryan Sharkey, who has perhaps risen to
the top of South Florida's distance runners, won his first marathon at the
EAU Palm Beach Marathon & Run Fest in 2013. Sunday he returns to the
streets of West Palm Beach and Lake Worth as the favorite to once again set
the pace in the elite running event of the Palm Beaches.
Sharkey is the manager of retail operations for Carnival Cruise Lines, who
has often found himself training on cruise ship treadmills recently due to
a busy work schedule. He most recently won the November 13 Michelob ULTRA
Fort Lauderdale 13.1 Marathon, which was a tune-up race for Palm Beach. His
time of 1:19:23 was nearly nine minutes faster than runner-up Wilson
Shearin of Miami (1:27:51) in that race as he reached his goal of the 1:20
marathon pace he was seeking to prepare for Sunday's Palm Beach test
followed by the Miami Marathon on January 24. He also ran a personal best
time of 2:33:14 in the Boston Marathon last April. His winning time in the
2013 EAU Palm Beach Marathon & Run Fest was 2:43:46.
"One week it's California, the next week it's Mexico," the 28-year-old
former Princeton star said of his recent training regimen. "It's been tough
training but you figure it out. I've gotten used to running on the
treadmill which makes it interesting. When we get to ports I try to get off
and run for a couple of hours. The shops aren't open in port so I get a
little break there. The cruise industry has been fun, but it definitely
makes the training more difficult."
This will be the 12th EAU Palm Beach Marathon & Run Fest presented by
Publix with more than 3,000 participants expected for the Marathon, Half
Marathon and 5K distances. The race, produced by Life Time - The Healthy
Way of Life Company, will begin at 6:30 a.m. with the 5K at 6:45 a.m.,
followed by the "Finish Line Party" until 2 p.m.
In addition to Sharkey, other top Marathon returnees include top two 2014
finishers Adam Lazrus of Silver Spring, Maryland (2:59:10) and Brazilian
Marcelo Lopes (3:02:48). The top two finishers in the 2014 Half Marathon -
20-year-old Samuel Luttier (1:18:11) and 45-year-old Jupiter running
fixture John Reback (1:19:54) - also return.
To kick off race weekend, the Health & Fitness Expo, including packet
pickup, will be held Friday and Saturday at Meyer Amphitheater near the
start and finish line with a variety of exhibitors showcasing the latest
trends, designs and advances in running shoes and apparel. Hours for the
Expo are December 4 from 12 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and December 5 from 10:00
a.m. to 6 p.m.
Registration for the Eau Palm Beach Marathon & Run Fest is available at the
Expo. Marathon registration is $130, Half Marathon registration is $110,
Relay registration is $350 and Waterfront 5K registration is $50.
