Areba Hammers Final 10K to Run 2:30:29, Crushing Record in Women's TBK Bank
  Quad Cities Marathon; Limo Makes Surge on Island En Route to Men's Win

WINMOLINE, IL - Damaris Areba (Kenya) and Jackson Limo (Kenya) took top 
honors at the 25th TBK Bank Quad Cities Marathon. Areba set an women's 
event record with her 2:30:29 effort, while Limo recorded a 2:18:05 to win 
the men's race. The race was run under mostly sunny sky, temperatures in 
the upper 50's-F, and slightly breezy conditions.

In the women's race, Areba was joined by Isgah Cheruto (Kenya), Hirut 
Guangul (Ethiopia), and Buzuayehu Mohomed (Ethiopia) early on. The group 
had an opening 10K of 34:31. By the half-marathon point the lead pack was 
three with Areba, Cheruto, and Gunagul checking in at 1:14:07. At 20-miles 
only Areba and Cheruto remained on the front at 1:55:23. Areba then 
hammered the pace across Arsenal Island, running her final 10K in 35:06 and 
opening a large gap. She crossed the finish line in the event record time 
of 2:30:29. The old record dated back to 2012 when Guangul ran 2:35:07.

Cheruto placed second in 2:36:51, running the fifth-best time in race 
history. Guangul followed close behind for third in 2:37:18. Mohomed 
finished in fourth place at 2:44:52. Then top-5 was rounded out by Purity 
Munene (Kenya) in 2:51:49.

In the men's race, Luke Kibet (Kenya), Sammy Rotich (Kenya), and Philemon 
Terer (Kenya) went out to a quick 30:59 opening 10K, while Limo was 
slightly more conservative, trailing by 14 seconds at that point. The half 
split was 1:07:12 with the early leaders joined by Limo as a four-man pack. 
It was then Rotich who made a move to the front and opened a 32-second gap 
with a 1:43:29 20-mile split. Limo made his push on the Island, moving to 
the front and running strong to the line in his 2:18:05. Kibet also moved 
up a spot to place second in 2:19:53. Rotich finished third with 2:20:45. 
Taggart VanEtten (Morton, IL) finished fourth for the second-straight year,
this time with a new personal best of 2:25:20. Matt Lorenz (Swisher, IA) 
had an impressive debut at the distance with a 2:25:40, earning fifth 
overall. Both VanEtten and Lorenz had fairly even splits on the day, after 
an opening half of 1:12:11.

In the women's master's race, Anne Terranova (Glendale, WI) was the winner 
in a solid 2:55:32, while Elena Shemayakina (Geneva, IL) was second at 
3:25:24 and Mandy Tydlaska (Ft. Worth, TX) ran 3:40:36. Ryan Lubben (West 
Bemd, WI) won the men's master's title in 2:51:49. Craig Gunby was 
runner-up (3:12:14) and Brett Fiegel (Davenport, IA) took third (3:12:39).

The local women's winner was Bella Solis (Bettendorf, IA) in 3:29:55. 
Melissa Taylor (Bettendorf, IA) ran 3:35:32 for second and Emilie Lawrence 
(Rock Island, IL) ran 3:36:43 for third. Aaron Golding (Moline, IL) won top 
local men's honors with a 2:45:37 clocking, while Jonathan Smith (Moline, 
IL) was second in 2:49:13 and Phil Young (Davenport, IA) was third in 
2:55:33.

MEL FOSTER CO. HALF TITLES GO TO CHESIRE FOR MEN AND BAREIKIS ON WOMEN'S 
SIDE

Both Mike Chesire (Kenya) and Jane Bareikis (Crestwood, IL) had just over 
2-minute gaps on the field at the finish line of the Mel Foster Co. Half 
Marathon. Chesire led form wire-to-wire en rotue to his 1:05:13 finish, 
while Bareikis also opened an early lead and hit the finish tape in 
1:15:41. Chesire's opening 10K was 30:30, while Bareikis opened at 36:05.

Mike Gille (Bettendorf, IA) had a 31:48 opening 10K and went on to place 
second in 1:07:48. Kallin Carolus Khan (Iowa City, IA) opened at 32:42 and 
was third at the line in 1:10:07. 

Polina Hodnette (Chicago, IL) and Valentyna Poltavska (Ukraine) ran the 
opening 10K together in 36:50. Hodnette went on to finish runner-up at 
1:17:53, just ahead of third-pl  ace Poltavska (1:18:03).

The top-3 locals in the half were: Gillie, Dalton Rice (Davenport, IA) in 
1:12:49 and Kevin Claus (Port Byron, IL) in 1:13:40. Brenna Gray 
(Davenport, IA) was the top local on the women's side with 1:26:58, while 
Allie Schnowske (Colona, IL) ran 1:30:53 and Amy Kintner (Bettendorf, IA) 
ran 1:31:20 to round out the top three.

PALMER 5K, RUDY'S MILE

Devin Allbaugh (Bettendorf, IA) set An event record and won the Palmer 
College 5K in 14:53, while Sam Butler (Sparta, MI) ran 16:27 and Jacob 
Albert (Decatur, IL) ran 16:52 to close out the top 3 men. Addison Royer 
(Flagstaff, AZ) was the women's 5K winner in 18:25. Brooke Lofgren 
(Bettendorf, IA) ran 21:33 for second and Caitlen Hahn (Geneseo, IL) ran 
21:45 for third.  

The Rudy's Mile winners were Kevin Claus (Port Byron, IL) at 4:41 for the 
men and Haley Humphrey (Muscatine, IA) at 6:10 for the women.
