BLAKE BOLDEN WINS 2007 MEDTRONIC TC 1 MILE
Blake Bolden wins with an unofficial time of four
minutes and 15 seconds, upsetting reigning
TC 1 Mile champion Luke Watson
MINNEAPOLIS – May 3, 2007 – In an upsetting victory over two-time defending
champion Luke Watson, Blake Bolden finished first in the men's open
Medtronic TC 1 Mile, May 3rd, with an unofficial time of 4:15.5*. It was a
very close race for Luke Watson, who finished second in the men's elite
race, in 4:16.6. Rounding out the top three, Team USA Minnesota's Ryan
Kleimenhagen finished with a time of 4:20.4.
Team USA Minnesota's Jenelle Deatherage took first in the elite open
women's race, with a strong lead, coming in with an unofficial finishing
time of 4:51.1. She was followed by Denisa Costescu, who finished at 5:03.4
and Rebecca Tallam, who finished less than a second behind at 5:03.6.
More than 2,000 runners registered for the 3rd annual race, which got under
way at 6:50 p.m. along the Nicollet Mall in downtown, Minneapolis. "This
year's event had five times as many runners as our first year," said
executive director of Twin Cities Marathon, Inc. Virginia Brophy Achman.
"Next year we expect to grow an even more exciting and competitive race as
we have increased the 2008 total prize purse to $25,000."
