MAN TO RUN 63 MARATHONS IN 63 DAYS – KICKOFF IN ANAHEIM
A local Los Angeles film production duo will follow Tim Borland
coast-to-coast, capturing this amazing feat to raise awareness
of a rare terminal children's disease.
Tim Borland of Los Gatos, CA will embark on an incredible journey September
3rd at Disneyland in Anaheim, CA, and continue through 62 other cities
across the U.S. running 26.2 miles a day for 63 consecutive days while
pushing a jogging stroller. Borland is driven by the hope to find a cure
for children diagnosed with a rare terminal disease, Ataxia Telangiectasia
– known as "A-T" – whose own feet lack the strength to run.
Ataxia-Telangiectasia is a rare, degenerative disease that takes hold in
early childhood. The disease combines the worst symptoms of cerebral
palsy, muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis, cancer and immune deficiencies.
There currently is no cure and no life prolonging treatment. Most A-T
kids are dependent upon a wheelchair by age ten and often do not live
beyond their teens. The disease is estimated to occur in one of every
forty-thousand births. Researchers know of roughly 500 cases in the
United States, but the numbers indicate there are several thousand more
that are likely misdiagnosed due to lack of awareness of the disease.
With more than 25 marathons under his belt, Borland decided to join the
small subculture of individuals called "ultra-runners" and soon thereafter
partnered with the A-T Children's Project to create the "A-T CureTour." The
A-T CureTour will travel through cities across the U.S. that are home to
families with A-T children. In some cities a child with A-T will ride in
Borland's stroller, and some days it will remain empty in memory of
children who have passed. At the conclusion of every race, communities
will gather at local rallies to raise funds for A-T research.
Brad and Deborah Carr of FEAT Productions are a husband and wife team based
in Los Angeles, California. Their documentary, "FEAT", will feature
Borland's extraordinary expedition across the country and delve into the
personal lives of the families that are affected by this dreadful disease.
FEAT will increase public awareness about A-T, help to increase funding for
scientific research, and will inspire viewers to explore their personal
potential to give hope to thousands of A-T kids and families who may be
just "feet" away from finding a cure or life prolonging treatment. FEAT is
a grassroots effort that is currently in desperate need of production
funds. Without proper funding, the production team may not be able to
bring this socially important story to the screen and into the public
consciousness.
This captivating and inspirational journey kicks off September 3rd, 2007 in
Anaheim, California, and concludes at the New York City Marathon on
November 4th. The A-T CureTour will span more than twelve thousand miles,
thirty states, and 63 communities where A-T kids live.
