FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Registration Opens for 2007 Chevron Houston Marathon
Event to Celebrate 35 Years of Running in Houston
HOUSTON, TX - Online registration is now open for the 2007 Chevron Houston
Marathon, Aramco Houston Half Marathon and Houston Press/Smart Financial
Credit Union 5K.
By accessing the event website at ChevronHoustonMarathon.com, runners can
register for all three races and take advantage of a discounted early
registration fee. The early fee is $75 for the marathon, $50 for the
half-marathon and $20 for the 5K.
The races are scheduled for Sunday, January 14, 2007. In 2006, the three
races, along with the Texas Children's Hospital Kids Fun Run, attracted
more than 20,000 runners, making the event one of the largest of its kind
in the country. For the second consecutive year, the combined field in the
marathon and half-marathon will be capped at 15,000 participants in 2007.
"We have experienced tremendous growth over the past several years, but we
don't want that growth to diminish the race experience for our
participants," said Race Director Brant Kotch. "The field limit allows us
to manage the event effectively and maintain a positive, rewarding race for
all runners."
The Chevron Houston Marathon, which will celebrate its 35th anniversary in
2007, will once again feature a world-class field, with some of the sport's
finest runners competing on one of the fastest race courses in the U.S.
prize purse details for both the marathon and half-marathon will be
announced at a later date.
The Chevron Houston Marathon, a Running USA Founding Member, is the
nation's premier winter marathon, annually attracting participants from all
50 U.S. states and more than 30 foreign countries. The marathon offers the
only closed marathon course in Texas and is ranked among the top five in
the nation by the Ultimate Guide to Marathons for fastest course,
organization and crowd support. More than 5,000 volunteers organize the
race, which is Houston's largest single-day sporting event. More
