Marine Corps Marathon Unveils New, Interactive Course Map
QUANTICO, Va. - (July 21, 2005) - Incorporating state of the art technology
to create an interactive online experience, the Marine Corps Marathon and
The Map Network unveiled the new MCM course map. Available online at
www.MarineMarathon.com or in hard copy keepsake format at the MCM Runners' Expo
in October, the full color map offers innovative technology enabling
runners to view hundreds of different points-of-interest while drilling
down to the most detailed information. For runners, planning for the
October 30 event is now as easy as clicking a mouse.
"We are very excited to partner with the Marine Corps Marathon," said Shane
Green, president and CEO of The Map Network. "No event depends on mapping
like a marathon, and the Marine Corps Marathon will be able to provide
runners and spectators alike an online preview of the courses, spots to
stake out for the best viewing, local attractions in Washington, and even
the floor plan for the Runners' Expo."
Offering a new communication medium for the MCM and even additional
sponsorship opportunities, the custom course map features everything
runners and spectators need to know from mile-by-mile markers to the water
points, from medical aid stations to food stations, plus photo locations,
live music and entertainment. MCM8K runners and participants in the Healthy
Kids Fun Run can click through their own interactive course map as well.
Spectators can use the event map to follow the recommended route for
viewing runners. Parking, shuttle bus service and Metro routes are all
featured in great detail to ease any race morning transportation concerns.
"Gone are the days of hard to fold and even harder to figure out maps,"
said Rick Nealis, MCM Race Director. "The Map Network has created a map
that is easy to navigate, simple to use and will help make the race more
accessible and enjoyable to runners and spectators alike."
