"A total disgrace" (about: 2011)

| 1 Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon
COURSE: 2 ORGANIZATION: 1 FANS: 2 I flew 2,000 miles for the absolute worst marathon experience I have ever had. The lack of organization was absolutely astounding. Water was lacking toward the finish, you had to dodge walkers constantly during the 2nd half, the finish line area was a disorganized mess, and I will NEVER enter a so called 'Rock & Roll' event again. The race director? Was there one? Absolutely horrible event. You people should be ashamed of yourselves for subjecting the participants to such deplorable and potentially unsafe conditions. Every runner deserves a refund of their entry fee, and then some. Shame on you, Competitor Group....shame.

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 1 FANS: 1 No organization, poor planning for both the race and the expo, not enough volunteers,no medals, no information, the debacle at the Mandalay Bay after the race..the list goes on and on. An absolutely terrible experience. I will NEVER run an RnR event again. Save your money and choose another event until RnR no longer handles this race.

"Debacle" (about: 2011)

| 1 Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon
COURSE: 2 ORGANIZATION: 1 FANS: 1 I have run many full and half marathons and this is by far the worst organized I have ever been part of. From the expo to the actual race this was a complete nightmare for runners whom no consideration was given to before, during or after the race. This was a lesson in how 'not to' organize an event. I concur with all comments made on this marathon on this posting. This was a very expensive race and 45,000 runners a lot of profit was made and little or no courtesy paid to the consumer. I and the runners I travelled with will never run a Zappo's organized race ever again.

"DANGEROUSLY BAD" (about: 2011)
1 previous marathon
| 1 Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon
COURSE: 2 ORGANIZATION: 2 FANS: 2 OK... my first 1/2 Marathon ever. It was an amazing personal milestone & achievement inspite of how *POORLY* it was organized & *DANGEROUS!!* it was. My advice to everyone... *STAY AWAY!!* from this race until they figure it out. I was in the post-race Mandalay Bay gauntlet of people for almost 2 hours. Imagine the Willy Wonka scene where they are all trapped in the little room and looking for the door to get out. Now layer onto that scene a bunch of overheated, and exhausted runners up way past their bedtimes. One man came tumbling through the crowd saying he wasn't feeling well, trying to get out & he passed out, fell backwards, and smacked his head on the concrete with a very loud thud. We screamed 'MEDIC!' for what seemed like ages. Finally security came, and said they were going to call for help from the nearby Starbucks. As the sea of humanity continued to glacially move forward, I saw another 3 people down waiting for medical attention. Once I finally got to the front, I saw the LVFD paramedics treating a couple of people. I begged them to work their way back into the crowd since there were others who were untreated & in a more serious condition. The expo was attrocious... the line of cabs to the Sands was at least a mile long. I found parking at Harrah's, and snuck in & out through the delivery area into the Expo & Check-In. For the day of the race, the directions for where to park upon race start was a *JOKE*! Thank the Lord for Smartphones & the Google Maps real-time traffic API. I was able to navigate the streets of LV and see the traffic on streets change from green, to yellow, to red, and avoid wasting a *ton* of time. Post race, I was disappointed that the race officials sent a message asking for feedback, but that I had to give all my financial information to 'help' them determine financial impact to the region. I wouldn't do it again even if RnRLV offered to pay for my entry, hotel, etc... Be afraid of this race... be very afraid.

"Horrible!" (about: 2011)
First Marathon
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 1 FANS: 4 I don't have any disagreements with the complaints listed below. It was very poorly organized, and I feel like I was completely ripped off. The one thing I will add is that I inquired with one of the Team Challenge leaders about why their participants (mostly leisurely walkers) were in corrals paced for a 2 hour finish time. He told me that Competitor Group wanted all charity participants in corrals 17 - 19. Why in the world a professional race organization would cram 8,000 people moving at a pace to complete in 4 hours in front of 20,000 people moving at at pace to compete in about 2 - 3 hours is completely beyond me. It's completely disrespectful to those of us trying to move at our normal pace. Weaving between orange shirted Team Challenge members walking 3 and 4 people across at a pace that would be too slow for my 80 year old Grandmother for the first 12 miles was completely frustrating. I was never able to relax and enjoy the race, because I was constantly looking for ways around people. Competitor Group is 100% responsible for this. I won't do another Competitor event. This is basic race logic. Horrible, horrible race management.

"Absolutley Horrible!" (about: 2011)

| 1 Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon
COURSE: 1 ORGANIZATION: 1 FANS: 1 1- almost threw up after the race and a fellow runner threw up multiple times. we don't know the cause yet. 2- race went thru seedy parts of town where there was no security or police presence 3- start corrals- we went to the wrong side and had no idea we were so far from our corral and had to walk thru multiple corrals to get to the right one 4- too many runners- we almost got ran over. 5- no gatorade on the course 6- very limited water and the water tasted odd 7- the inside of the Mandalay Bay was horrible packed- it was a huge cluster. People couldn't move. Thank goodness there wasn't a fire. 8- I didn't get a medal at the finish and I still don't have the medal that was supposed to be mailed to me.

"Not at all great, but haven't given up on R&R" (about: 2011)
6-10 previous marathons
| 1 Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 2 FANS: 2 I agree that from the expo to the finish line, it was pretty packed. The expo is one of my favorite things about race weekend. I didn't enjoy myself at all in there. I like a crowd, but not one that I have a hard time walking in. I would have spent more money had there been a better flow. I didn't see many of the vendors b/c I just wanted to leave. At the start line, my walk to the corral was awful. It took me 25-30 minutes just to walk from corral 2 to 24. I got in a jam of people that didn't move for 10 minutes. I don't even think I could turn my body around ~ it was that packed. I did start getting anxious about not being in my corral b/c the event started while I was stuck. Even though I was dodging people the whole half marathon, I still enjoyed myself. I don't think it was the amount of people that this race couldn't handle. The logistics seemed to be way off. If the expo were in a bigger place and the runners/spectators were managed better, then this race would have been a hit.

"worst race organizers ever" (about: 2011)
6-10 previous marathons
| 1 Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon
COURSE: 1 ORGANIZATION: 1 FANS: 2 Competitor is the worst ever. Very dangerous 'fun run' .If you run under a 10 minutes pace you may get pushed and shoved HARD.If you're faster you will not be able to meet your goal.Too many bottlenecks and walkers. Very little water because many volunteers quit. They were not given gloves or pay.I don't blame the volunteers . Hire employees like the Competitor dipshit who under ordered the metals from China.Maybe buy American next time. |
