How did the walkers got in front of the runners? This was a bit of a setback. Even though there where few spectators, I had a good race. I'd love to come back some day to score a PB for my age division.

I'm not surprised that this race will be under new management in 2009. There were many promises made that did not materialize.

The new directors need to deliver a great race in 2009. Then perhaps people will start returning to this race.

They should keep:
1. The fireworks
2. The nice, flat course
3. The generous course support
4. The run-through wedding chapel
5. The running Elvi

They should work on:
1. The start: A staggered start would allow the good marathoners to finish with the good half marathoners
2. The entertainment
3. The T-shirt: Charge me more, but don't give me a cotton shirt
4. The finishing medal: Cheap!
5. Starting corrals
6. The pasta party: No excuse for not having enough food and staff. Charge me more, but do it right.
7. Mylar blankets: Don't run out, or at least reserve them from the full marathoners
8. Fremont Street. Include it.

I researched this marathon, so I expected no crowd support. I think Las Vegas could get more schools, clubs, etc., to help cheer on the lonely back miles. I cheered to the few silent locals hanging over their fences in hopes that they would say something to the runners next year. The course was flat, with tons of photo opportunities, and huge cups of water and sport drink at every fluid stop. I hated wasting it; they filled those big cups so full. It was my first marathon where the full and half marathon start together. Not my favorite circumstance. Got a PR. Fun city to visit for a couple of days, and a good way to get Nevada done.

This is my third time running the Las Vegas Half Marathon and I was extremely disappointed with the course, the expo and the proof of accomplishment.

I am a Las Vegas local and I believe that there are other parts of Vegas that are more scenic than the backside of the Strip. And I miss being able to run through the Fremont Street Experience.

This year the entertainment on the course was non-existent. The fireworks at the start of the race could barely be seen. And I just loved running by those religious zealots who were holding up signs telling me that I was going to "Hell."

The expo was smaller this year and a little unorganized. The kid volunteers were cute, but needed a little more adult supervision. The t-shirts in 2007 were awesome. This year's shirts were pathetic. Even the bib was sub-standard. Darn thing bled all over my white shirt and stained it.

The medals looked like something my three-year-old niece and nephew could have made. It is 01/11/2009 and there are still no certificates of completion available. I know I should be content with my inner sense of achievement but I really like being able to display my running accomplishments.

I am strongly considering not running the 2009 Las Vegas Half Marathon because the quality of the race has declined significantly since 2006.

"Up from here??" (about: 2008)

The 2008 race was not as good as the 2007 one. In 2007, we got unique medals and a nice shirt. In 2008, we got a basic medal and a shirt that just got printed by the local tourist shop an hour before the expo. In '07, the bands were scarce, but at least some were there. And the cheerleaders were great! I hope the R'n'R will help make it better.

The route: The Strip is great. The rest is fine. Nobody should expect 200,000 people standing around watching us run. If you run any marathons besides big-city ones, you will think LV has plenty of scenery. I like the residential tour.

I'll be back. Where else can you get free Zicam????!!!!

"Very Disappointing" (about: 2008)

My dad and I ran the half-marathon together, and I must agree with most of the other posts about the 2008 race. The expo was in a rather small area and was crowded (could have used more of the space in the room). The fireworks at the start were cool, but the start of the race was an absolute mess. My dad and I tried to position ourselves according to our expected finish (2:30), but we spent the first 3 miles weaving around herds of walkers. Running down the Strip at night was neat, but after the Strip the course went by every gentleman's club and pawn shop in town. The finish was very cramped and the only food I saw was a table full of rotten looking bananas. The finisher's medal and t-shirt were very unimpressive (and I usually could care less, but when you spend $80 for a half-marathon you expect a little more).

Overall, run this once if you want to run down the Strip, but otherwise I would not recommend this race.

"Over-rated, over-hyped" (about: 2008)

First Marathon
COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 2  FANS: 2

This is my first half marathon outside of Canada. My sentiments echoed the other negative comments about this race: Poorly organized, over-hyped. Where was the entertainment that was promised? I saw one marching band, and one drunk, banging a cow bell. The only good entertainment that I saw was a lady in high heels, holding a bottle of beer, trying to run across the Strip in front of hundreds of runners, slipping and falling flat on her face.

How did so many walkers end up at the front of race? The first half of the course was good along the Strip, but the second half was horrendous, running behind the Strip in an industrial area. I guess that is why the road is called, "Industrial Road." Spectators along the route was non-existent. The finish line a chaotic joke. Everything seems to run out in a hurry: the food, blanket, etc. The cotton t-shirt is a joke, and the medal was a bigger laugh; Vegas, you could do better. The pasta party was grossly overpriced, charging $35 for lousy pasta. I wouldn't waste my money running this race again.

"Not as good as New York or London" (about: 2008)

11-50 previous marathons | 1 Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon
COURSE: 2  ORGANIZATION: 3  FANS: 1

This was my first time in Las Vegas from London, so I did not know what to expect. I liked the early start, as we had the rest of the day to sight-see. The first three miles were great, but after that, even though the course was flat, it was very boring with no crowd support at all (although, admittedly, it was early). I did not like the finish at all - running behind the Strip by dual carriageways. It was a bit messy. Very poor goody bag. We were staying in the Mandalay Bay, so it was perfect for us. I have done 7 New York Marathons, and it can take over an hour to get out of the park at the end of the race. I would run this race again, but maybe in a couple of more years, if they change the finish route. Also, I did not notice the mile markers until mile 16.

I agree with most of the comments but this is a young marathon and I am sure that it will improve. Has anyone else had a problem with the listed time? My watch showed me finishing at 4:02, but the posted chip time is 4:12.

Great race. I read negative comments about the race, but I have no negative comments. I would have liked to have corrals at the start. I really enjoyed the race, the people and Vegas. I set a PR. Everything was well organized. The fireworks were awesome.
