First Marathon
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 This was my first marathon and the scenery and the spectators along the course were great. Actually my only complaint would be that the course was at least .2 miles long. | |

"A monumental experience" (about: 2010)

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 This course is run throughout the downtown and residential areas where numerous monuments and historic places can be viewed, which makes the experience very enjoyable. It is also flat and fast, and a good Boston qualifier. Plenty of aid stations throughout, although there could be more porta-potties in the first few miles, as I saw several runners stepping off along the fence lines to relieve themselves. Plenty of post-race eats at the finish line, which was located next to the state capitol building and downtown central monument, giving this race an added touch and making it true to its name. Temps are a bit on the cold side, which is typical for the Midwest in November, but the gradual warmup toward mid-morning made the experience more enjoyable for me. Medal is uniquely shaped and colored for a distinct feel and memento of this well-organized race. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 5 Pros: Nice, flat marathon with enthusiastic crowds. Run through beautiful neighborhoods. Good support at water stops. Excellent organization. Medal and shirts were outstanding. Hotel was two blocks from the start. Cons: Expo was a bit crowded. Pasta dinner was pricey, at $20. | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 Enjoyed the race - not too crowded. Felt like there were a lot of turns in the first 5 miles, but it was flat and scenic. Enjoyed the post-race stuff and the hat, and the handshake from the RD was a nice touch. Stayed downtown, which made the expo and walk to and from the race easy. Very good event - well run. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 I ran the IMM one month after running Chicago... and I absolutely loved it! It's not as flat as Chicago, but it was truly a pretty flat and fast course. There were a few very small inclines that were nothing to worry about in the last half of the marathon. The course winds through some very lovely parts of Indy. The organization was great. The only thing that I would improve for next year would be to have the aid stations on both sides of the street and the tables need to be much longer to avoid traffic jams and bumping. I had to stop a few times to get water due to some backup... and I don't like to stop. The crowds were nice, but of course was not as loud and abundant as Chicago. The people who were out on the chilly day were quite enthusiastic. The race director was at the finish to shake my hand... nice touch. If they did have pictures after the finish, I didn't see them. The logistics of this one are so easy! Plenty of hotels close to the start, the finish, the expo and some restaurants. I easily walked everywhere. I recommend it highly. | |

"A well-run, flat, fast marathon" (about: 2010)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 I'll sum up the pros and cons quickly: Pros: -enthusiastic spectators, although a bit thin in many places -flat, fast course -good weather (I like it on the cold side when running 26.2) -the finisher's hats were a nice touch -the 1:00 starting line glitch (things like this always seem to happen) was handled quickly and professionally. -I thought the course was scenic and nice, with many sights along the way. Not boring at all. The cons: -Rude drivers. A few others have commented on this. I saw an impatient driver nearly run over a runner; his car was swarmed by many nearby runners banging on the car. It would be a good idea to simply close off some of these areas, although that's not always logistically possible. -The expo was overcrowded and hard to navigate through, and parking was virtually nonexistent. I'd look for a better venue for the expo. | |

First Marathon
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 3 I ran the 5K, and while I enjoyed the run and course, I was a little disappointed that as I was finishing the finish area was still being set up and not completely ready. Also had to wait quite a while for anyone to be at the results tent. Several people, including myself, were unaware there were no awards for the 5K; however, this isn't uncommon. In general I left with the feeling that the 5K wasn't taken as seriously as the longer runs were and was added to generate money. I'm also not a big fan of starting without a mat and calculating time off of the event start. | |

"Great tour of Indy" (about: 2010)

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This is a great course. Enough turns to keep you focused and a bit flat (though there are some slight grades along the way). All of the water stops were great. It was nice to see so many support folks during the tough miles 19-26 - luckily I didn't need any help but it's comforting to know they were there. Very exciting to run in my home town. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 Everything about Indy and the race was fantastic. Tons of hotel rooms and a variety of restaurants close to the start/finish area. We were in town for 3 days and never had to get in our car. Course was flat and had enough changes in scenery to keep it interesting. Crowds got a little sparse when you left downtown. Plenty of aid stations and several gel stops along the course. Only complaint: the Colts cheerleaders were in warmup suits and not their sideline uniforms. Oh well. | |

"Great way to see Indy!" (about: 2010)

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 What a fantastic marathon! I enjoyed every minute of it. Our hotel was 2 blocks from the start/finish. Perfect! My two-year-old daughter was able to run in with me from the 26-mile marker and she was treated like a star by the volunteers at the finish line. The only issue was traffic control. I witnessed two police officers nearly run down by angry drivers. Keep up the good work! |
