This was my 1st marathon and even though I was slower than I wanted to be, it was a great experience. The crowds were amazing and I even got to see my family and friends twice on the course. Would run it again in the future.

What a fantastic experience. The course is incredible, the fans are amazing, and what an organizational feat to pull off a race with 37000 runners thru 26.2 miles of NYC, with tight security, 2 million spectators, and hundreds of streets closed.

Not a course for a PR due to the sheer density of the crowds, but who cares? An awesome experience that I don't think can be topped.

NYC was my 32nd endurance event/marathon. By far it was one of the best; the crowds at Boston & Chicago are louder, however at NY they are out in force - about 1.5 - 2 million!!

The course is a challenge w/ the bridges and a gradual grueling uphill finish.

The people of NY were truly fantastic; I never had a problem asking for directions or felt unsafe at anytime.

There is a huge international presence with runners from every corner of the globe.

The only item that needs fixing was that there were no massages at the finish. For an event of this size and cost, this MUST be available.

Great poster, t-shirt, and medal.

Overall grade: A! Send in your lottery application now!

The ING NYC Marathon was my first marathon, and the experience was incredible. The weather was perfect (if anything, a little too warm at 68 F). Though there were some logistical problems with the 37,000 runners, the race was remarkably well-organized. Even though the crowd support in Manhattan kept me going, my favorite borough to run through was Brooklyn because of the support from entire neighborhoods and families. I wish that I had worn a shirt with my name on it, because the crowd around Central Park was encouraging each person by name. I definitely hope to go back to NYC for another marathon.

Course - The course spans the five boroughs of New York, enough said. You run through Polish, Italian, black, Asian, etc. neighborhoods. The course is littered with so many little intricacies that it was awesome. You do cross five bridges and some rolling hills along the way but think of this as a 'fun' marathon experience. The best parts of the course are definitely the Verrazano Bridge, 4th Avenue Brooklyn, 1st Avenue Manhattan, and Central Park!

Organization - It is good, could use some slight improvements. Port-a-pottie lines were fine early on but about 90 minutes before the race the wait time can be at least 45 minutes. In addition, the corral assignments did get messy with all the people pushing. This year was the first year that the NYCM used pace groups and they definitely need a more thorough organizational system to get the pace teams lined up! The pace teams practically cut the entire line for the corral, which peeved some others. The organization during and after the race, though, was TOP-NOTCH!

Spectators - This is the Super Bowl of marathons. It doesn't matter if you're running a 2:30 race or a 6-hour walk/run, the spectators and volunteers make this event. This had to be the most incredible day of my life because of the cheering, pep-talking, just ENERGY in this crowd. Everyone raves about this marathon and I now know why. The MOST INCREDIBLE experience of my life and in my hometown, just amazing! Can't wait for next year!

Completing this marathon is one of the most amazing experiences ever. I cannot describe the emotion I felt as I passed over the finishing line. I have now completed 5 marathons in total - London 3x, Paris 1x and New York 1x, and this is definitely the best. Can't wait to do it again.

I think everyone should have a 'most wonderful day' in their life. For me, it was the NY Marathon. The race course was well planned, the day was sunny, and the city of NY opened their hearts to us. I wear my shirt with great pride and will cherish my medal forever.

There is nothing like NY, is what they say! And this is so true in every aspect. The fans alone are incredible. They pull you through when you need it most. I recommend this race to anyone and everyone!

There are people cheering you on at every mile of the run. Plenty of water and Gatorade stops (although in the 1998 run I got to a Gatorade stop and it was DRY! At about the halfway point!!!!). Friendly, fun, and I am going back again for more punishment this year!
