"Great race! Relay runners should start earlier" (about: 2002)

COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

I think the course can be improved, and the relay runners need to start earlier than the marathoners. They should also stay away from the massage tables.
The course its much harder than Austin Motorola, and not nearly as pretty.
The organizers do a great job with everything else.
I think there were about 2,000 marathoners and 3,000 relay runners.

Of the three marathons I've finished, this is my favorite. The course is relatively flat and even with my poor training, I set a PR. The weather is a bit chilly at the start but once you get going it's great. I remember only one significant hill and it was a short one. The spectators and fellow runners are the friendliest I've seen and the organization is top rate. If you can make it to Dallas in December, DO THIS!

"Beyond my expectations!!!" (about: 2002)

When I first read the comments on the DWRM I was a little skeptical about some details such as the AA center closed before the race, with freezing temperatures, rude people, bad decision changing the starting point etc. I took the chances and got my own experience, and I am really glad I did. Organization was superb, both, participant shirt and finisher one are excellent; I am proudly using them in my current training, finisher medal is really neat, clear skies and even for a guy like me (Born and raised in Mexico thus not friend at all of low temperatures) the low 40s we got that morning was about right. Congratulations to the organizers, this marathon should be in the 'To do list' of marathoners...

Before running this race, I read the comments and reviews from the previous years. I then emailed the race staff and asked them if they had seen these and if so, what was their game plan to improve. They responded promptly and honestly. This was my third marathon of the year and my first time on this course. This was by far my favorite. Great course:I beat my previous PR by 20 minutes. Wasn't expecting the hills during the first 6 miles...I thought they were tougher than the Dolly Partons. The crowd support and weather were excellent. The organization was just as impressive as the LA and San Diego races. This crew put on one heck of a good show and I hope to make this a holiday tradition. Rock on!

What fun! From the fireworks at the start to the course entertainment, Dallas was a great place to run my first marathon. The course took us through some beautiful areas of Dallas prior to circling the lake. We had great weather, which added to the beauty of the lake. The hills near the end of the race were challenging but not overwhelming. The organizers did a great job of making this race a fun event with themed areas we would run through such as Christmas land and the Dolly Parton look alike area. The race was well organized with plenty of water stops. For those of you looking for a great place to run, I would highly recommend Dallas, the specators were very encouraging. In fact, several of the locals set out their owns tables of food and refreshments. Unfortunately, the spectators were sparse in a few locations.

"Better than I expected!!" (General Comments)

I have run the Houston Marathon four times and decided to try a new marathon and eventually decided on White Rock. To complicate matters, I was running for a PR and to qualify for Boston. I thought this was a tough run (especially 9 miles around the lake) but it was made much easier with the great spectators and aid stations. Plus, the other runners were so helpful. I achieved my goal and want to thank everyone that was out there running with me and pushing me, even during the last .2 miles!!

"White Rock Marathon Much Improved" (about: 2002)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 4

The Dallas White Rock marathon organizers obviously listen to feedback, because this year's race seemed much better than when I ran it in 2001. The main improvement was made by opening the American Airlines Center to runners before and after the event, and providing plenty of post-race refreshments inside. The course around White Rock Lake is beautiful, although the trip there and back contains several hills. Plenty of cheerful supporters and aid stations along the route. My only suggestion for improvement next year would be to include fresh fruit / bagels at the finish line, as it takes several minutes to maneuver through the crowd into the AA center.

"Great Race lots of personal attention!" (about: 2002)

Great start and finish. AA Center open before and after race!!!
Police at every intersection, but they could have done a better job letting traffic through the course route.
Organizers did a great job, they were very concerned about the runner. They tried their very best to correct problems of the past and they did it!!

"I'll do this one again !" (about: 2002)

What a great experience running Dallas. Everything about the weekend was first class all the way. Great expo, decent meal at the pasta party (along with listening to Frank Shorter and Bill Rodgers speak), and wonderful community support on race day.
I fell in love with the aid station workers at the Dolly Parton Hills.
The only negative was that the street was a bit too narrow for the number of runners at the start, forcing some of us to run the sidewalk.
After the run we got finishers t-shirts and ball caps. The finish line was laid out very well.
There were ample portajohns, which is a must.
Overall a great run that I'd highly recommend to anyone.

This was a great race to be participating in your first marathon. The organization and fans were better than expected and the course was beautiful.
