"The best half marathon course I have run" (about: 2014)

6-10 previous marathons | 1 Glass City Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

I ran the Toledo Half Marathon for the first time this year and it was probably my favorite one I have done so far I have done 7 other half marathons. The course was beautiful and flat - by far the nicest course I have run through great neighborhoods and a beautiful metro park. The packet pickup and the set-up the morning of the race made everything super easy! I will definitely be doing it again in 2015!

"Good Medium Sized Marathon" (about: 2014)

I ran this marathon with the hopes of improving my previous best time and was able to run a 3:04. The race size and location made race day very easy. In fact, this race had the best race day logistics I have experienced in all my marathons. We got from our hotel to campus (start and finish is on the University of Toledo campus) within ten minutes. We did not have to wait to park. We walked to the starting area where there were port-a-potties and tents to wait in (it was 35 degrees at the start). Corrals were easily accessible. The course is relatively flat with only a few rolling hills. The course has a mix of roads and paved trail and is run through scenic metroparks. The race has a nice finish into the football stadium. My only complaints are that there are stretches of the course that are run alongside highway. On race day it was extremely windy and runners had to run 5+ miles into a strong head wind. Also, fan support was lacking in areas. There are some stretches of trail where there are very few fans (as expected with small/medium size races). However, the scenery gives you something to look at. I highly recommend this race for someone who wants a medium sized, affordable race and is looking to run a flat/fast course.

This was my first half marathon and I am so glad I chose the Glass City as my course. The organization was beyond reproach. The course ran us through really scenic areas. It was the spectators, though, who really made it special. I would recommend the Glass City Half Marathon to anyone. I will be back next year. Maybe I'll be brave enough to run the marathon.

"FABULOUS, FUN, FAST & FLAT MARATHON" (about: 2014)

OMG! Loved, loved, loved this marathon. Loved the course, loved the organization & support, and most of all, the post-race festivities. I'm still bragging about it! Where else can you pay $60 which pays for your race, a tech shirt, free beer glass mug, a few free beers, pasta, pizza, fruits, bagels, etc.? The only thing I wasn't crazy about were some of the volunteers yelling out 'your pace' time as you ran by, but learned to ignore it for the most part (my Garmin does the job for me, lol.) I would def. do this one again!

"FANTASTIC BQ race!!" (about: 2014)

This is the third time I have run Glass City and it has honestly gotten better each time.
Everything was highly streamlined and there was no guessing 'what do I do now' or 'where do I go'.
This is a well run BQ race. The 1/2 and relay sell out fast and with such long course limit times, even the slow runner, as I am, can safely run without feeling like people are waiting on you to close the course.
I'll be back year after year!

I enjoyed the course. The part on central avenue about mile 19 was harder because of the uneven road and stones. But it was mile 19.... good water stops! I had someone run with me from. Mile 25 to finish from the mile 25 stop. That was a blessing from the Lord!

"Great run." (about: 2014)

I did this run for the first time this year. My favorite half marathon to date. The organization is first rate, packet pick up went quickly. Race time was available immediately after finishing. The course is great, very scenic and fast, with only a few short rollers. Supportive spectators and volunteers. I can't say enough good things about the Glass City Marathon.

"Fast and flat with nice stadium finish" (about: 2014)

6-10 previous marathons | 1 Glass City Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

Smaller budget friendly race that was well organized. Nice stadium finish with a beer mug handout that you can fill with (2)complimentary Toledo micro-brew beers.
PR course for sure and cooler weather than other later May races lately.
Downsides would be crowded starting miles but that's not uncommon. Not spectator friendly since family and friends have not many options except see you start and finish at the stadium.
Bike path in final miles are a bit lengthy and tedious.
Overall I would definetly run this race again and recommend it.

"Really Enjoyed an Excellent Course, Fast & Flat" (about: 2014)

11-50 previous marathons | 1 Glass City Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

This was my 11th marathon and my first in Ohio. Course was billed as fast and flat which it was. I'm from Florida and although I didn't consider it 'Florida Flat' I didn't have any 'hill' issues.

Weather for 2014 was perfect. Low 40's at the start and it never got out of the 40's. Wind was a slight factor towards the end but nothing horrible.

Course support was excellent. Water and aid stations were plentiful as well as GU stops. The half breaks away around Mile 8 so I thought it was going to get pretty lonely out there but it never did. In the neighborhoods there were plenty of spectators cheering. On the paved trails there weren't as many people but there were still a lot of cheering volunteers. I never felt alone or in no man's land.

Race finishes at the University of Toledo's stadium which is a nice touch. Finisher's medal was a nice one too. You get a really nice engraved glass beer mug since the Glass City is where Corning glass is made. Two drink tickets on the bib were used to fill it up at the after party!

I finished in 3:46 and there was plenty of post-race food still available - pizza, oranges, bananas, pretzel sticks, Twizzlers and beer and water. Tented areas helped you get out of the wind and you could listen to live music and just hang out.

Overall - A+
