This was my 8th marathon and this one is head of the class. Very well organized starting at the expo and onto race day. Not a detail is left out in the planning.

Of course the hills at the end are tough but with the crowd support it makes it a breeze.

Looking forward to running this one in the future.

Running my first Marathon was nerve racking, however my concerns were put to rest very early on.
I loved the Catholic Mass given the night before, I certainly did not want to feel guilty for accomplishing my goal.

Everything was well marked and in case you did not read all the signs volunteers would give you a heads up of what was to come and when you got there they told you again.

The water, aid stations and snack stations were amazing. The community kempt me going with their cheers, bands and snacks.

I could not let anyone down, I had to finish. Thank You for making this an amazing experience.

First Marathon

This marathon was 14 years in the making -before marriage, before kids, before baby weight... I volunteered 14 years ago at the finish line. I was so inspired I put it on my bucket list. All the locals told me this was the right place to try. I loved the entire experience - every minute of it was wonderful. The course is beautiful, the crowds amazing, the online information, comments and advice awesome for preparing you for the run. I was a back-of-the packer at 5 hours but finished fresh sprinting the last 3/4 mile thanks to the great info posted by the commitee, the course design and the absolute joy and love from the 'party' crowds along the way - my adventure was unbeleivable. For other 'bucket listers' this is your marathon. It's totally worth the journey - you can do it!!! and Scranton is an awesome city!

This is my third time coming back to Steamtown. I am glad we have the opportunity to share positive feedback because it is such a great event - the course, the spectators, the organization. The medals were beautiful this year. The shirts were a nice fit too. I will continue to return to Steamtown.

"Well organized, well-received and super hilly" (about: 2012)

This race was very well organized. From the email notifications and instructions to the expo, to the parking and shuttle buses, to the pre race waiting area - all of it was done well. Everyone involved was so kind and helpful. The food and drinks handed out before and after the race were unexpected and fantastic (hot chocolate, granola bars, pizza slices, pasta!).

I really liked how it felt like a small town, grassroots marathon but also a very well known and prestigious race at the same time. I especially liked how the race incorporated many students from the local high schools. They were so sweet and very uplifting and encouraging. Thank you Steamtown! Well done.

This was my 5th marathon, my sister's 1st. Thanks Jim Cummings for the frequent amusing email updates. Pasta dinner was good. We were very impressed with the bus line-up (and sorry there were so many wasted!) Spectators were sometimes rare, but we appreciated any and all support from complete strangers. The scenery was beautiful this time of year! There were more uphills than expected (but aren't there always?!) This about sums it up: a very nice race overall - THANK YOU

"Steamtown 2012 was the perfect race" (about: 2012)

I really enjoyed the Steamtown marathon this year. It is my 9th marathon and my fastest by seven minutes! I really enjoyed the pre-race e-mail updates. Full of good info and humor. The people helping run the race were helpful and kind. It was in the high 30's at the start but you could stay warm in the high school. Race day the temps were perfect, mainly in the 40's and overcast. For a smaller race there were a number of spots with good sized crowds out cheering the racers on, playing music, and providing additional water. After the first mile it was very easy to dial into a specific pace and maintain it. I ran the first half at a conversational pace, which is still fast because it is downhill I worked a little harder the last quarter and managed negative splits. The hills at the end are a pain but you get warned about them so I was definitely mentally prepared. I will definitely run Steamtown again.

"Best race EVER" (about: 2012)

I had never run a full distance marathon until the 2012 Steamtown. I have run in a couple 1/2 marathons (1 at Disney World) which had about 15,000 entrants in each. The support of the NEPa community was AMAZING. There were more people cheering for this race than the races with nearly 10x the competitors!! Of note, there are uphills throughout the race, not just at the end (as I had read). I plan to run it again in the future and hope to encourage some friends/family to do it with me:)

This is the 5th marathon that I have run, and I have to say that the course was not only great (i.e. really damn fast) but it was also during peak foliage and beautiful. The organization was superb and the spectators, although not as name as some races were more enthusiastic that any others that I have even encountered. Truly a race that I look forward to doing again!
