"AWESOME.....but" (about: 2000)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 5 This was my first, but not last, marathon. I am hooked now and look forward to my next one. Considering that I have never been a fan of running. In fact I thought people that ran marathons were 51 cards short of a full deck. This is a major conversion. My biggest disappointment was that all the entertainment I heard about was gone by the time I got to them. In many cases, the water stations were being shut down. I was really glad I had my own gel and food. The biggest surprise was how soon we were told to get on the sidewalks. In some secitons, the sidewalks were not safe for running. While I understand the need to get the streets open back up to normal use, I really thought 1 1/2 hours after I started was too soon. Maybe they could just close down one side of the street rather than the entire street. That is what they did in Long Beach this past Sunday and it worked well.

"absolutely amazing!" (about: 2000)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 OK, I dont have much of a basis for comparison since this was my first marathon-- but, oh my god, what an experience! I came to Chicago mostly because I didnt register in time for Marine Corps. I left Chicago with a new passion! The course was incredible, and the people were even better. I can't even begin to explain how much it meant to this runner to have HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of fans cheering me on. The organization was amazing, the expo was awesome, the course was FLAT, and the experience will last forever! Thank you Chicago; Ill see you next year!

"Excellent race/spectators, but what about ..." (about: 2000)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 5 ..the first time runners? Yes, there were 29000 runners on this course -- and it was awesome. My only disappointment was that the slower runners were punished rather severely. Due to the large number of runners, I didn't cross the START line until there were 12 minutes on the clock. They closed down the mile markers at a 14 minute per mile pace. If people were at the back of the start line (to be courteous to the faster runners), the mile markers and the food were removed by the time they got there! The cops were forcing people (behind me) off the streets and onto the sidewalks (ouch!). The PowerGel station was out of food by the time I got there -- as were some of the Gatorade stations. [I finished in 6 hours, 14 minutes]. BUT the spectators were awesome. In fact, many of them brought their own food (oranges, bananas, etc.) on the course. One saw that they were out of PowerGel so she went into the gas station and was giving people animal crackers! This is definitely going to hook me onto running another one! (hopefully in much faster time!)

"Excellent race, people, and memories. Thank you." (about: 2000)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 My first marathon and I am so glad to have chosen Chicago. It was wonderful. The memories bring me the same feelings I had when I finished. Can't believe I did it....and thanks to the organization, course, and the spectators I'd definitely choose to do it again.

"Simply Amazing!" (General Comments)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This was my first marathon and running Chicago has made me addicted! I have the benefit of living in Chicago and you were able to feel the build-up to this event. A very well organized race from start to finish. Fans were lined 5-6 deep in some areas of the route. The fact that there were bands or djs on the lesser populated areas made it more enjoyable also. With the luxury of the CTA (pulic transportation), my family was able to be in 4 different locations cheering me on, as well as at the finish in the stands. Although the race was huge in numbers, this first timer did not get lost in the shuffle. THANK YOU CHICAGO! I will be back!
