"A great little race" (about: 1999)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 I ran this in '99 and really enjoyed the run. The course was along what use to be a railroad route, and it was generally pretty flat. There were about 150 runners doing the marathon, but the half-marathon, which started at the same time/place, was much larger so there were plenty of people on the course for the first half. And since the second half was an out-and-back, there were always at least a few other runners around. The organization was excellent -- the water stations were well staffed and everyone was very friendly. It was cold enough in the morning that there was ice in spots on the course, but they had someone at each of these spots to warn you. Post race food was fruit, pizza and cookies; plenty of everything even though the half marathoners had finished long before me. Definitely will do it again after I finish the 50 states.

"Low key but a real nice race" (about: 1999)
COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 2 I have run it sveral times and have never come away disappointed. It is a well run race with a quiet but nice course though spectator turnout is a little light. But a thumbs up and a must do on your marathon calendar.

"Slow, boring course" (about: 2000)
COURSE: 2 ORGANIZATION: 2 FANS: 1 It's pretty sparse. I placed third last year, but not because my time was spectacular, but there wasn't anybody there. The organization wasn't great either - the directions were bad, there weren't enough shirts to go around. Not a great race. |
