Race Organizer

RUN COLORADO! (7/16/21)
Bill Morton

The race is run on a relatively flat, mostly soft surface, 1.31 mile loop course with plenty of support. The 9-hour time limit for the 50k is extended to runners in the marathon and half-marathon. So this is a great race for first timers. All participants receive a custom pub style glass and plenty of swag. All finishers receive an embroidered wicking beanie and a scissors shaped finisher's medal on a ribbon that includes the names of all of the runners in your event.

"This is a great race with a great RD" (about: 2021)

Ran this in 2021. Altitude is 5000 feet, but the loop course is mostly flat. 20 laps for a marathon. Great race support, and the RD is a quality human being. He talks with every runner who finishes. He really cares about this race, as does his wife, This race is one to do, for sure. Only 20 minutes from Denver airport. And, lots of craft breweries within a few miles of downtown Brighton.

This is a great marathon! Relaxed, friendly and extremely well organized. The RD is a 50 Stater and does an exceptional job. The volunteers are awesome. The Holiday Inn host hotel was very nice and gracious to the runners needs. Course is flat and fast. Pack some wind clothes and gloves as the course circles a lake and there is no blockage from the wind. This is a great marathon for the state of Colorado if you're doing 50 states. The fee is reasonable and helps a local charity.

I was pleasantly surprised running this marathon. We even had snow for most of the time I was running! Loved the snow! The loop course (for me) was never boring. It was fun because the Race Director learned people's names, so there was always cheering at least every 1.31 miles. All the volunteers were super nice too. There was plenty of water, sports drinks during the race and food at the end. This marathon is great for those who like a less crowded running field and need a little more time to complete (i.e. slower runners).

We had a great time at this race. Weather was cool and raining but that's Spring in CO. You never know. Dr. Bill put on a great race at a very reasonable price. We really enjoyed our experience. We will definitely be back for more.

"Great small town loop race" (about: 2017)

Bill Morton hosted another great race. Well organized small race. This was my first loop race so I didn't know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised at the experience and will find more like it as I complete my 50 states. We started with early cold wind and rain, later turning to snow and within a few hours warmed up enough to give me a slight sunburn on my neck. Denver offers all seasons in one day so be prepared to dress accordingly. I wish I had taken gloves. Even with the wet start we all had a great day. My nephew ran the 1/2 and I completed my first 50K. Large crowds and music not missed as we made a lot of new friends. Highly recommend giving Bill's race a try. Register early as the bling is limited and is printed with all runners names.

I appreciated the opportunity to join this really cool group and blast around the pond 20 times. It's a far cry from a big city event, but if you're the type of person who likes to forgo the hype and just get in some miles with good company, you will do well here. You can no kidding show up five minutes before the gun goes off and have no trouble making the start. The course is easy and might perhaps be a hair short.

Also, shout out to Dr. Bill and his wife, who put on the race pretty much solely out of love for running, and provide a great spread of snacks and nutrition.

I had a great time and would gladly stop in again if I find myself in town race week.

"Well-Supported Small Race" (about: 2016)

I chose this as my Colorado race on my 50-State quest because I thought the relatively flat course would help make up for the altitude. I don't know how much it helped, but I did enjoy the race.

There are a lot of advantages to a small race like this one. For me, the set up overall took away a lot of the stress associated with doing a marathon. The park was easy to get to, with plenty of parking right next to the lake. There was plenty of ice cold water and sports drink available every time I came around the loop. I could leave my bag at the start/finish and drop off discarded clothes or pick up a gel or anything I wanted from my bag as needed. There was plenty of delicious food available after the race.

The race director really does a nice job attending to all the little details that make for a good experience. He even arranged for us to have breakfast bags to pick up in the lobby when we left the host hotel in the morning.

I enjoyed getting to see all the other participants over and over again as we ran our laps around the lake. The generous course time meant that even a slow old lady in terrible shape like me did not have to stress about making the cutoff time.

If I lived in the area I would do this race every year. But since I don't, I'm just glad I picked this small gem of a race for Colorado.

"Great little race" (about: 2016)

This was a great little race. Colorado was my 34th state in my 50 state quest, and I'm happy I chose this one. 20 laps sounds like a lot, and may turn some people off. If you want to get a tour of Colorado on your run, then this probably isn't for you. But it's a scenic course, and it's flat, which is not something you can say for every course in Colorado. The swag and post-race food was a lot better than you'd expect for a race this small. This is a great way to check Colorado off your list.

"Better than expected" (about: 2015)

I needed a marathon in Colorado for my 50 state quest that had a generous time cut-off and wasn't really hilly. This marathon fit the bill, but I was hesitant to have to run/walk a loop 20 times. It was much better than I expected! The loop is mostly gravel with some pavement. It surrounds a lake that is filled with interesting birds, including pelicans! The support was excellent - an aid station every loop that had just about everything you needed, and bathrooms at a few spots along the way. The course is almost pancake flat. You also get a nice view of the mountains. There aren't many spectators but I rated them 4 stars because the ones who were there were very enthusiastic. The post-race food was excellent and there was plenty even for the slower participants like me. I liked how you could interact with the other athletes, even the faster folks, since everyone is doing the same loop. You get a lot of great swag and you can get your picture taken with the giant pair of scissors at the finish. And the photos are FREE. The only suggestion I would make is that the drinks on the aid table should be labeled or someone should let you know what they are. I grabbed what I thought was water but it was an electrolyte drink that didn't taste good (to me). Overall, Bill thinks of just about everything and I'm glad I did this race for my Colorado marathon.

This is a hidden gem of a marathon, run on a loop in a beautiful park north east of Denver. If you are trying to complete the 50 states marathon circuit, this is the one I would recommend. Very walker friendly with great organization and support. The medal were awesome (shape of scissors) and there were plenty of bathroom and water stops. Bill Morton and his wife (Darla?) have a wonderful event and made it fun. I'll definitely do this one again. Great job Bill and team!
