"Beautiful fall race" (about: 2021)

This race was a perfect small town fall race. Although there was a short bus ride to and from the start, we could wait in the heated ballroom (with plenty of chairs) before the race and it meant we didn't have a long way to walk after/before the race. Plenty of porto-potties at the beginning and there was one at each aid station. Each aid station had high school students and they were very sweet and supportive along the way. I had some concerns about the terrain on the rail trail, but it was very runnable. I would definitely do this race again.

Everything was copacetic here. I had no thought of qualifying for Boston. Also,I just signed up that morning which to me is a very desirable option, and it was not expensive ($105) by today's inflated standards. I'm old. Decent support on the course. Competent organization. Someone painstakingly sprayed every rock with white paint on the trail section.Weather was favorable until four hours into it when the rains came. No complaints from me.

"Nice course but disappointed in organization" (about: 2017)

Everything seemed rushed. Shirts were not what was advertised. 1/4 zip shirt and got l/s t's and ran out of sizes, etc. IF you were not an above average runner lunches, beer, etc. were hard to relax and enjoy. Great race for those trying for a BQ and half marathoners but regular or slower marathoners were in minority.

"Nice 'two lap' marathon course" (about: 2017)

A low-key event with a two-loop course. A few rolling hills, last 3 miles is a rail trail with a few ruts and rocks to avoid. A few more half marathoners than marathoners (249). Subsequently, the advertised yogurt and Cliff Bars were gone by the time the 4:00+ runners returned. At least there was chili and beer left. Advertised a as high BQ. Some race staff not very friendly compared to other races with enthusiastic volunteers. Water stops every three miles and Hammer Gel twice, well-staffed water stops. Glad I did this race for the scenery, but probably would not return for a second time.

Great organization. Fast, scenic course. Not boring at all despite running the same loop twice. I chose LOCO well in advance for my 50th marathon state. It was the perfect race experience to close out my goal. I highly recommend this to all.

"Great small race" (about: 2015)

This is a great race if you're looking for a small one. Everything was well organized and they even had pacers which helped a lot. Obviously due to the size of the race there weren't many fans out on the course. It was great that after the race you could head inside to warm up and the chili definitely hit the spot!

"Small, fast, flat and pretty." (about: 2015)

This is a small race with about 200 marathoners. The course is fast and beautiful, with two loops consisting of 10 miles of blacktop with 3 miles of trail at the end. You run through quiet neighborhoods with a few very gentle rolling hills in the first couple of miles (honestly, where I live and train it is flat, and I barely noticed these hills). The fall foliage never gets boring; there is plenty to see (my personal favorites: 3 tiny stone walled cemeteries, farms, and of course the pretty trail). There are plenty of aid stations with enthusiastic volunteers, but almost no other spectators. Ample parking is about a mile from the start with frequent shuttle bus transport. The long sleeve technical shirt is a decent quality; the medal is small, plain and pretty: very appropriate for this race. Post-race chili and Smuttynose beer? Yes please! One minor issue: I would have liked a pre-race day bib pickup option to be able to leave my wallet in the hotel on raceday (no ID, no bib). If you like small races or are looking for a BQ, I can certainly recommend this race.

This was advertised as a flat marathon and it was mostly flat, but really had rolling hills for someone who trains among the Midwest cornfields. Despite rain at the start and the leaves being 'past peak' this was a gorgeous course. There are two loops for the full marathon and four miles are on rail trails. Much of the race is on roads open to traffic, but there was ample traffic control and I did not feel unsafe at any time (although I was happy that I had worn a fluorescent orange shirt). If you are looking for lots of crowd support, this is not your race, but the volunteers were friendly and helpful.
Several of the drink stations had water only- no Gatorade. My only other comment was that I felt very rushed after the race. No false advertising, you have to run a sub 4:30 if under 60 years and sub 5:00 if over 60. Although I am over 60 and was over 5 minutes under the 4:30 cut off, I was nervous about catching the last shuttle to our cars at 5 hours because the over 60 results were slow to come in. Had I run a 4:55 marathon, I wouldn't not have made the shuttle. Leaving a little buffer at the end would have turned a good race into great race.
