Atlantic City Marathon Races Series Extends an Offer to Runners
Effected by the Jersey Shore/Sandy Hook Shutdown
ATLANTIC CITY – The Atlantic City Marathon Race Series announced today,
October 7, an offer to the 1,200 road racers of the Jersey Shore half
marathon and 5K: a deep discount rate if they wish to participate in the
Atlantic City marathon, half marathon, 10K or 5K scheduled for October 12
and 13.
The federal government shutdown closed the seven-mile peninsula at Gateway
National Park in Sandy Hook through Friday, October 4 with the race
scheduled on Sunday, October 6.
Jersey Shore Race Director Isabel Meldrum had to cancel the race.
"We recognize the impact that this has had on our local racing community
and wanted to be able to help," according to Director of the Division of
Race Services Atlantic City Marathon Race Series Marg Mancuso. "Runners are
dedicated and train for months. Whether they are training to run their
first 5K or for their tenth half marathon, it is important for them to be
able to reach their personal running goals. As such, we want to offer the
runners of the Jersey Shore half marathon and 5K, 50 percent off of
in-person registration."
Racers who were not able to run in the Jersey Shore half marathon and 5K on
October 6, must simply supply their Jersey Shore registration confirmation
to In-Person Registration of the Atlantic City Marathon Race Series on
Friday, October 11 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, October 12 from
11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Caesars Palladium Ballroom, 2100 Pacific Avenue,
Atlantic City, NJ to receive 50 percent off of in-person registration.
"We recognize that the organizers of the Jersey Shore half marathon and 5K
had no control over this situation and are offering deferment of their race
fees to all pre-registered runners, but we wanted to extend an olive branch
to those that really had their hearts set on running this past weekend,"
Mancuso said.
