Under Armour Baltimore Marathon Course Design Incorporates
the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore
Baltimore, MD (August 25th, 2011) -- Corrigan Sports Enterprises announced
today the marathon route design for the Oct. 15th Under Armour Baltimore
Running Festival. For the first time in the event's 11-year history, the
26.2 mile course will take runners through the grounds of the Maryland Zoo
in Baltimore.
Lee Corrigan, president of Corrigan Sports Enterprises and race director,
said, "One of the coolest things about designing the marathon course over
the years is the opportunity to include Charm City's top tourist
attractions so runners get a true flavor of the variety of things this town
has to offer. Running alongside penguins and polar bears will provide our
field with a unique Baltimore experience that they will never forget."
The Under Armour Baltimore Running Festival will take place from 8 AM to
3PM and will feature five races: Under Armour Baltimore Marathon, CareFirst
BlueCross BlueShield Half Marathon, Legg Mason Team relay, a 5k and the T.
Rowe Price Kids' Fun Run. An event record 25,000 total runners are expected
to participate in this year's festival. Last year 22,000 runners from all
50 states and 22 countries participated in an event that generated an
estimated $28M in economic impact according to a study by RESI.
Another new highlight is the marathon route will take runners directly
through the campus of Under Armour's corporate world headquarters in Tide
Point. Changes from last year’s course were precipitated by construction on
a bridge on Fort Avenue.
The half marathon route will stay the same as 2010's layout.
