Local Race Places in Top 25 of National Award Competition

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Local Race Places in Top 25 of National Award Competition

In a national ranking of marathon finisher medals among some of the largest
running events in the United States, the 2012 Atlantic City Marathon placed
25th. The annual competition is led by nationally distributed running
publication, Marathon and Beyond. A panel of judges with diverse
backgrounds in the running community, gather and review samples of finisher
medals from over 500 marathons from across the country. This year the
Atlantic City Marathon made that coveted list!

"I love how the lighthouse blinks and lights up to represent the symbol of
the Jersey Shore. The birds and waves with blue coloring make me feel like
I’m on the AC Boardwalk with the wind in my hair and saltwater taffy in my
fuel belt," described Maricar Koff, panelist for Marathon and Beyond
magazine. Race organizers agree, the goal of the design was to encompass
everything that is Atlantic City and the New Jersey shore. From the
recognizable design of the lifeguard boat to the historic Absecon
Lighthouse featuring a battery activated light, this medal shows the nation
the laid back, beach atmosphere of a city most known for gambling and
nightlife. Among the Atlantic City Marathon were many large metropolitan
races including ING Miami Marathon, Bank of America Chicago Marathon and
Big Sur International Marathon.

In 2013, the Atlantic City Marathon Race Series has partnered with Road
Runners Club of America’s New Jersey branch (RRCANJ) and hopes this year’s
finisher medal brings recognition back to the New Jersey Shore after
Superstorm Sandy through the design and focus on the history of the
Atlantic City Boardwalk. This design will be released later in the summer
of 2013.
