Luminita Zaituc joins elite field of real,- BERLIN MARATHON
Luminita Zaituc will run the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON on September 25th.
Today, during the women’s marathon of the World Championships in Helsinki,
Berlin’s race director Mark Milde announced the signing. Luminita Zaituc is
the best German marathon runner at present. The 36 year-old had decided not
to run the marathon at the World Championships. 40,000 participants are
expected to run the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON.
Meanwhile three female top runners have entered the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON.
Besides the Olympic Champion Mizuki Noguchi (Japan), Ireland’s world class
runner Sonia O’Sullivan will be running. "We are happy that we can present
our spectators the best German marathon runner in the biggest German
marathon race," said Mark Milde in Helsinki.
Luminita Zaituc finished 18th in the Olympic Marathon in Athens when it was
boiling hot. After that she ran the ING New York City Marathon and finished
in a good sixth place. In beginning of April this year she already won the
Bewag BERLIN HALF MARATHON in the fastest time of the year in Germany
(71:04 minutes). After that Luminita Zaituc won the Düsseldorf Marathon in
2:26:44, again Germany’s fastest time of the year. She decided not to run
in Helsinki, since she couldn’t get back in shape in time. The runner up at
the 2002 European Championships in Munich has a personal best of 2:26:01.
This she ran at her victory in the Frankfurt Marathon in 2001.
