Marathon Expands Purse, Field for 40th Running

Sep 1, 2013

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Marathon Expands Purse, Field for 40th Running

The Tallahassee Marathon will happen for the 40th consecutive year on Feb.
2, 2014. It also has a companion Half Marathon, which was added to the
event in the mid-1980s.

Because the event has steadily grown since its move to the FSU campus in
2003 and was nearly full last year with 1,185 registrants, the full
marathon field size has been doubled to 800, now matching the field size of
the half marathon.

Also in recognition of the 40th anniversary of the Tallahassee Marathon,
the cash purse has been enlarged, most notably top awards. First-place
finishers win $2,000, up from $1,200, with smaller increases to the other
top-five overall finishers in each gender. The marathon also awards cash to
the top three masters (40+) finishers in each gender.

Registration opened at the beginning of July and the numbers are up from
last year. The prices between now and Nov. 30 are $65 for the full and $45
for the half. The price to register will increase on Dec. 1, if spots are
still available.

Runners can register online for either race by going to
www.tallahasseemarathon.com.

Proceeds of the race benefit The American Lung Association of Florida and
local running activities. Sponsorships are available, as are booth spaces
at the race expo, which takes place on Feb. 1, 2014, at the Double Tree
Hotel.

For those with questions about the event, the race directors can be reached
at . Anyone interested in being one of the
approximately 250 volunteers needed to put on the event, write to
