The participation limit of 40,000 was reached after three and a half hours. After 2:30 Minutes 10,000 entries had come in. At 3:31 p.m. the race was sold out. Last year it took six weeks to sell out.

Close Victory For Mutai But More Straightforward For Kebede In Berlin

Geoffrey Mutai won the Berlin Marathon with a time of 2 hours 4 minutes and 15 seconds beating his training partner Dennis Kimetto by one second. Kimetto recorded the fastest debut marathon ever with his 2 hours 4 minutes and 16 seconds.

A Bizarre Berlin Marathon Ending To A Great Race

Dennis Kimetto and Geoffrey Mutai were on marathon world record pace with just a few kilometers to go. Kimetto, who has won several shorter races with astonishing times and blazing kicks, seemed to just settle behind Mutai to take 2nd place by a mere second.
