The Lighthouse Project organized the Big Bear Marathon in 2009 after taking the race over from HBT Sports who organized it in 2008. The marathon is not being supported by either organization for 2010.

Saturday marks the inaugural Run the Bear Big Bear Lake Marathon. The marathon event also includes a bike tour around the lake and a half-marathon and 5K event.

Slater Fletcher is inching closer to overall leader Ted Devito of Big Bear Lake in the Conquer the Bear extreme sport challenge. The two athletes are separated by only six minutes with the marathon event to be contested on September 12 at the Run the Bear Marathon.

The Big Bear Lake Marathon is set for September 12 and will cover the highest marathon in California with an altitude over seven-thousand feet. A new course with plenty of scenic views will greet runners traversing the relatively level path.
