Regarded as one of the toughest marathons in North America, Ruth finished the with a time of 3:56.27. The marathon took place at Mount Mitchell, which reaches it's peak at 6,684' -- the highest in eastern America.

The Mount Mitchell Challenge, along with the Black Mountain Marathon, will take place Saturday with more than 300 runners taking part in both races. The marathons begin at 7 a.m. in downtown Black Mountain before traversing the nearby trails and turns around near the Black Mountain Gap on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
