Bruce Deacon of Victoria, British Columbia, and Irina Safarova of Orenburg, Russia, withstood bone-chilling elements to win the men's and women's divisions of the 19th California International Marathon on Sunday. Deacon became the event's first three-time winner in the 26-mile, 385-yard race from Folsom Dam to the steps of the state Capitol. Along with the challenging journey of the marathon, runners had to deal with a driving rain and constant wind. Deacon's winning time was 2 hours, 22 minutes and 12 seconds.
