The Capital City Marathon is returning to its previous course around Capitol Lake after two years of road repairs were made to an earthquake damaged stretch of Deschutes Parkway. The 24th Capital City Marathon will not however return either of last year's winners. Both men's winner Andy Wedam and women's winner Karen Steen are injured and will not be competing. Former winner Phil Jasperson and Craig Dickson, a 2002 U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier will be competing in what should be a very fast and competitive field.

Olympia, Washington's Capital City Marathon is set to go in May 18th, 2003, and is back on it's original, scenic track around Capital Lake. The Deschutes Trail around the Lake suffered damages from an earthquake late February, 2001, and it has taken this long to get it back in working condition. Runner's are enthusiastic not having to start the run uphill as it was not intended for the race, and they are happy to have old Puget Sound back in their view.
