Denver goes distance with inaugural marathon

The Mile High City Marathon men's race was a four-man affair, as Jeff Mason, Lance Denning and Geraldo Silva dueled at the front, with Jason Saitta just off the pace. Silva made a decisive move at the 10-mile mark that broke the other runners. Silva, a 26-year-old Brazilian residing in Littleton, was overwhelmed to win the first Mile High City marathon in 2:33.35. With tears of joy, he reached out to hug and slap hands with spectators lining the finishing chute.
