A Colorado man has been awarded the victory in the Duke City Marathon after the winner was disqualified because he was helped by a bicyclist during the race. Barner Colmenares of Venezuela finished Sunday's race in less than 2 hours, 20 minutes. However, he was accompanied by a man on a bicycle who sprayed him with water, handed him water bottles and paced him from behind. Teddy Mitchell of Alamosa, Colo., was awarded the victory for Sunday's race with a time of 2:28:24. Brantley Lutz of Albuquerque moved up to second place at 2:29.48.

The 2000 Duke City Marathon on Sunday couldn't have come at a better time for Santa Fe's Stephanie Best. Best will be among the nearly 4,000 entrants, including a number of elite athletes, expected to participate in one of the races of the Duke City. The events include the half-, full and relay marathons, 5K run and 5K walk. In addition, there's a kids kilometer run and an osteoporosis awareness walk.
