Pre-teen Nigel Sharp left jaws dropping when he finished the 2001 Edmonton Festival Marathon in Canada in 3:03:12, good enough for 29th overall out of more than 2,000. For most of the race, he ran with his father, who ultimately placed 16th, but admitted his son usually outruns him.

Japan's Kenichi Takahashi won Sunday's Edmonton Festival Marathon in Alberta, Canada, with a 2:18:35 finish, more than seven minutes ahead of his nearest competitor. He will be back in August for the world championships and try to finish closer to his 2:10:51 personal best.
