Ashis Roy completed his seventh marathon for 2009 by placing second in the 70 plus age division at the Friendly Massey Marathon in Canada. The oldest competitor, Roy, ran the 42 kilometer race in 6 hours and 43 minutes which was 6 minutes slower than his Niagara-on-the-Lake Marathon four weeks ago.

The North Shore will play host to the thirty-third annual Friendly Massey Marathon today. Events began on Saturday with the marathon kicking off 6 am on Sunday.

Friendly Massey Marathon seeks sponsors

Elizabeth Gamble, race organizer of the Friendly Massey Marathon, is looking for sponsors for the race which enters into the thirty-third year. The event, which provides chip-timing, ambulance and attendants on site, advertising, pancake breakfast and prizes, costs over $30,000.
